"Since privatisation, Yorkshire Water and other regional water companies have paid out £7.6bn in dividends while loading themselves with borrowings.

Company accounts show net debt climbing year after year, even as profits were distributed to parent companies and investors."
Yorkshire Water: it’s time to end the rip-off
Handing the company back to local people would return both control and value to those who need it most

The BBC can retrieve something from this mess (and show US broadcasters what a spine is) by sending Donald Trump a four letter response: “See you in court!” www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/...
The four-word message the BBC should send Trump about his $1bn lawsuit
The corporation must show it will not be cowed, unlike American broadcast media, and call the president’s bluff

Economics.
The world is going to sh*t because the rich are taking everything, money, shelter, land, energy, food and water.
Maybe time to elect better politicians eh?

Robbie Gibb should have been ruled out of the running for the BBC Board in 2021: it was clear he'd been closely involved in setting up GB News - an ideological project aiming to rival to the BBC, & therefore a clear conflict of interest. The fact he was still allowed to join always rang alarm bells.

What really fills me with dread is that every instance of this isn't met immediately by an armed crowd chasing off the secret police. For every video of ICE/CBP being confronted, there are more where bystanders just evaporate. That has to change.
ICE GOONS abducted a man while he was out birthday shopping for his daughter. You can hear the child pleading for her father as the masked goons ignore her and stuff him into the back of an unmarked car in San Diego, California.

Tells you that actually he is doing a good job and the Green Party is bad.

Poor old Rupert is scared he will lose control.

The Autumn Budget should declare an Australia-style ‘war on bills’, says the progressive IPPR think tank today.

The major fiscal event must put the cost of living at heart of government’s agenda, moving beyond the ‘black hole’ IPPR argues, saying food & energy prices should be top priorities.

I’ve long been concerned about private medical tests — a space opened up by Covid and deregulation under the last government.

Pregnancy scans are particularly worrying, but there are many other causes for concern.
