And with the gunman trope, there's the added layer of violence begets violence, and that's a bell you can't unring.

There's a whole subset of westerns exploring the inescapability of violence in a violent world that I don't see in other genres, even war movies. And it seems like a grim topic, but I've never seen one that says we should just give up... the striving for peace may be futile, but it is always worthy.

I feel it does a lot of what Shane does but so much better, and yet it's not talked about nearly as much.

The cast, the script... so good. It left me sad and angry in all the right ways.

The Gunfighter was fascinating.

I don't know what it says about me that I laughed so hard at this idea that I cried.

I just got out of Kiss of the Spider Woman, and they referenced the Mitzi number!! Heaven.
