Solar has real land-use considerations but this graphic does a good job of contextualizing that demand compared to what we devote to ethanol, which is good for farmers' bottom line but does not at all accomplish its climate raison d'être.

In Gouda, workers digging this hole for a new sewer found 180 skeletons buried under the doorstep of the Gouda Cheese Experience - probably victims of the plague, buried in the 1620s

I just left the Everglades Immigrant Interment Camp. No, I’m not using their ridiculous name. It was a very tough to witness humans in those cages. Every Floridian should be ashamed that our taxpayer money is being used for this.

Cool study I saw in #CogSky, linguists have thoughts?

🎤 "Your #CogSci presentation was quite good this year."

How flattered or offended will you be? The answer may depend on whether you speak British or American English 🇺🇸🇬🇧. Our new #CogSci2025 paper reveals systematic differences in how different cultures interpret the same words.

happy 4th of july, american culture is spiritually dependent on worship of an abstracted idea of "america". this is known as the "civic religion". you can look it up on wikipedia if you want. americans are expected to accept the civic religion as truth. (this is a thread)

I have become my (academic) mom:

Oh, this looks like a relevant paper!

Oh, I already saved a copy.

Oh, I seem to have read it...probably just skimmed it.

Oh, I highlighted and commented throughout, but don't remember anything. 🤦🏻‍♀️

There is a massive difference between LLMs and AI. They are not the same thing at all. I've been using LLMs for 25 years with my remote sensing work. Thank you for your attention.

Sometimes I take a retrospective look at

everything… then I feel bad.

Then I remember that I study anthropology and alcohol. Life’s good when binging in a pub counts as participant observation.

After years of studying Bioarchaeology, I am so happy to have finally viewed Saints Bones! (at Museum Catharijneconvent, Utrecht)
Absolutely wonderful museum with lots of beautiful artifacts, but this little collection took my breath away.
