Software is where the magic happens. Enigmatic tooting almost certainly does not refer to anybody who you might know.

I was laid off a month ago. I certainly feel differently than when I was furloughed mid-pandemic in 2020, almost 5 years apart to the week. It has been an interesting month of contemplation and emotions. For the moment I am planning to keep hacking code but I still need to make other decisions […]

LLMs think I am smart and insightful.

There has never been a greater tool for amplifying the Dunning-Kruger effect.

`Cleaner.@NonNull Cleanable`

Ok, I hate it. I don't know how I missed this until now.

#openrewrite is really neat. I used it to do some really impressive conversions. I haven't had this much fun since Jackpot refactoring in #netbeans. I do wish it had better error messages rather than dozens of 800 line stack traces. Expect to see some contributed conversions soon…

I played today with the #java #jep470 : PEM Encodings. The result was satisfying but anticlimactic.

https://github.com/bondolo/KeystoreWrapper/commit/0568ee065c5faf12723861960d571c7d782c37a0

So far the only quibble I have is that the implementation of `PEMEncoder.encode()` uses 8859-1 rather […]

I just "love" all of the #java security methods that fail if you pass null provider and instead require you to use a different method for default provider resolution.

Plus, still no mechanism for providers to offer a default SecureRandom algorithm. JDK-8229521

I keep thinking about problems that either aren't mine or not important.

Choosing #yaml is a sign of poor judgment and always will be.

L’esprit d’escalier but for pull requests.

No matter how many times I self-review before submitting code I **always** find something that I want to add or change before others have a chance to review it.

The canceling of ICEBlock is more evidence, were any needed, that the Web is the platform of the future, the only platform without a controlling vendor. Anything controversial should be available through a pure browser interface.

Sorry, I meant to say “Let’s play!”

Very disappointed to learn that the #apple AirPods Pro 3 still don't support Bluetooth Multipoint. Even though I have mostly Apple devices they use several different AppleIDs (personal, work, shared) so the iCloud multipoint is useless to me and I really don't like that it requires a network […]

Use ‘//** comment */‘ in your #java code whenever you want to make a snarky joke or derisive statement about the code.

A generative AI company that doesn't have a bot posting topical social media? Seems like a distinct lack of faith in their product.

Started with a new UI framework today and good news, I was plunged in to dependency hell before I even got it set up. I have spent nearly all my time figuring out what works with the other random versions. Many Internets have been downloaded.

This my #introduction. I’ve been online since 1983 using this handle. I like and toot about an ever changing scenery of interesting people, ideas, and things. I dislike meanness, negativity, assholes, and bullshit. I judge people on how they treat others. A better world is possible with happier […]
