I think that Mike nails it, but while Google's approach will keep people going to Google instead of using ChatGPT for search, it still poses the dilemma you describe for the journalism industry and their reliance on click through to get viewership metrics for ads. Unclear how this works out.

What I find most mind-blowing is that he's been pardoning people who have plead guilty. It's not as if there was a conviction as rendered by a judge or jury. WTAF!?!?
