Succulent and cactus gardener. Also, a fan of art, science, democracy, retirement and my dog.📍 Bay Area
This is a "Medusa's head" cactus my wife learned about while listening to a talk by a local seller. It's been grafted onto a cactus root stock for faster growth. Astrophytum caput-meducae 'variegata'🌵

I love this red maple tree (October Glory) I planted a few years ago. It takes a bit longer here in the Bay Area to turn red than in colder climates, but soon it will be a shock of red. 🍁

A few months ago, I was given this free cutting of a Cereus peruvianis 'Monstrose' cactus. It took a long time to fully root, but the new growth on top started long before then. 🌱

The mother plant. She's cresting later in life.

This is a crested Echeveria that started as a small branch growing on my large Echeveria hybrid. After repotting, it's taken less than a year for the stem to change into this cool fan shape. 🌱

A pair of lithops in full bloom. They are notoriously difficult to grow, so having them flower is very exciting. 👍😎🌱

Not only is this resilient Echeveria "Sahara" bouncing back from its first full-sun summer in the garden, it's having pups. 🌱

This is a unique purple variegated form of a Monadenium schubei my wife found. Paired with a pot made by her talented friend. 🌱

This is a young Adenium obesum "Golden Carrot." Adeniums are prized for their large and sculptural caudex (trunk) and large roots. They're also known for their flowers. This cultivar has bright orange flowers. 🌱

The top of a Euphorbia obesa (Baseball plant). This one is around six years old. It hasn't flowered yet, so am hoping it happens this year. 🌱

Found some orange day lilies on my walk today. They were in front of my hometown's VFW building and really brightened up the garden.

This Echeveria is a survivor. I planted it a few years ago in the hottest part of my yard. It struggled for a couple of years, but never gave up. Now it's looking better than ever after another long hot summer. 🌱

I just noticed the first tiny yellow flower popped up on my Astridia velutina. It's doing well after three seasons in the front garden and am hoping for a lot for more flowers this year. 🌱

I got it at Home Depot and it's been a prolific bloomer. Highly recommend.

Here's another mature and impressive succulent from the private garden tour. A six foot tall Aloe ferox with its older leaves left intact to protect the stem from the sun. 🌱
