Exactly, and if you want an even more positive take on Laine. He might not have peeked as a hockey player, he’s only 26. Maybe his best hockey is still ahead of him.

I noticed it can be like that with him, when he’s having a mediocre game and then he scores the most important goal of the game. For what it’s worth, I don’t think he’s played his best hockey yet. He is still catching up for a late start.

I don’t know how old you are, but Dennis Savard was very good at slowing things down the same way and catching the late guy coming in with speed. I love that play.

Only the most elite players can make that play. Hold onto the puck long enough to catch an open player coming in late with speed. That is a thing of beauty to watch.

He is a guy that is under appreciated by the fans and most media. I know that Marty has a lot of trust in this player, and he is liked by his teammates. Dvorak could have scored a few more goals if he could have buried his chances.

I saw a video of Newhook without his jersey on getting his peers reward for Player of the Game, following their win against Florida. He is some jacked. Definitely spent some time in the gym this Summer.

Anyone who was paying attention to his game and not his stats over the last couple of weeks, knew he was turning the corner. I was very surprised by some people’s evaluations over this period. He will still need to improve his d zone coverage, but that should get better too.

I thought you guys did a good job with the Finnish names but then again how would I know?

Canada needed to shoot high on this goalie. Lots of chances, but many shot into the pads. I hope they can show better finish as the tournament progresses.

I so wanted him to get that one. Not just for its importance in the game, but more what it could have meant for Kirby’s season. This notwithstanding, his best performance of the year. Better days ahead for Kirby.

Matheson’s speed to cover for Hutson can be helpful, but I think this pair is very susceptible to the heavy forecheck of a big line, especially with Matheson playing on his wrong side.
December 24, 2024 at 2:12 PM
They’ve invested so much in this player, since drafting him. They might not like the idea of another team reaping the benefits, when is primed to play his best hockey.

Dvorak has had a lot of great chances this year, but has had difficulties finishing. He is better defensively than people give him credit for. I still think, he’s keeping Beck’s chair warm. Evans will be resigned imo.

Even the threat of taking a penalty against Montreal, is going to change how other teams play against them. This should benefit their 5 on 5 game.

I was very sceptical at first, but the overall production quality coming out of the gate is far superior to TSN and Sportsnet. The commentators are also prepared and unbiased. Very professional.

Sportsnet has a lot to do to catch up to the standard set by Prime

It might be too early to tell, but I question if he is physical or fast enough for the NHL game. I hope that I am wrong.
December 18, 2024 at 8:28 PM
Smart move. Don’t need to rub salt in their wounds. That’s how your star players get hurt.

True

I wonder with the emergence of Hutson, who the Habs consider trading Matheson to address their right D deficiencies. It would be hard to trade a local guy though

I believe the motivation for the Montreal Gazette vitriol towards the young man and the Montreal organization was to appear politically correct and not upset potential sponsors. The Gazette seems more concerned about controversy than getting good information about the players.

For awhile, I had quit paying much attention to them. Growing up they were the best source for Habs news, but now there are so many better options available. Their coverage and treatment of Logan Mailloux, an eighteen year old kid for me was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Yes having someone like Laine that can score at distance with a wrist shot even in the NHL is a rare commodity.
