This was a really emotional, personal and reflective script for me to write. @ericweichhart.com did a great job of grabbing all kinds of great archive material to bring it all together in the edit.

On the eve of our second anniversary of Second Wind, here's a really personal story.

🎉A game changer for Beacon Hill!

Thank you to all the neighbors with Beacon Hill Safe Streets who did the organizing and advocacy to make it happen (there was a period where it was on the edge!). Get involved to extend this south through all of Beacon Hill. seattlegreenways.org/volunteer

I-90 light rail update: before the end of the month, 2 Line testing will start extending up to Lynnwood, with out-of-service trains running in between normal trains. Riders won't be able to board, but this will be a preview of what 4 minute headways north of downtown look like.

The bike lane barriers installed in D2 were installed because @tammymorales.bsky.social put a proviso on ~$2M in 2023 to add concrete protection to every lane mile in D2.

Without that proviso only ~1 mile of bike lane on D2 would have concrete protection.
For the record, I’m certainly no fan of Harrell. I voted against him (twice) long before it was cool.

But if you deny that he built a ton of high-quality bike infrastructure over the past four years, you’re being obtuse.

I sincerely hope Wilson builds more

bsky.app/profile/bike...
Yeah. I lived in SE Seattle and voted against him in his two city council elections because he opposed bike lanes on both Rainier and MLK.

Neither of those streets have bike lanes in their futures. Harrell is pro bikes everywhere he doesn’t live.

WATCH: If you REALLY want to understand a BIG reason why cycling [aka riding a bike] is so dangerous in North America, and one of the biggest villains in the origin story of our unsafe status quo, invest some time watching this one, by NOT JUST BIKES (aka @theurbanistagenda.com here). Then share it.

Today in history, 1898: After voters elect a biracial city council in Wilmington, N.C., a mob of white supremacists overthrows the local government in a coup d’état. The mob also killed as many as 300 black residents in what is known as the Wilmington Massacre. /1

I am on my way home to Toronto and the aurorae are absolutely phenomenal.

If you are anywhere in the northern half of the continent, get outside and look up! Or better still, put your camera on a 10 second exposure and point it up.

Nearly 1,100 days after safety advocates painted a guerrilla crosswalk at Harvard Ave E and E Olive Way (and SDOT washed it off), there is now a permanent crosswalk here.

I just finished reading “To Seattle by Trolley” by Warren W. Wing. It was recommended to me after I made my Interurban history bike ride video. It has a lot of historical photos and maps of the various interurbans run by the Stone & Webster Company. I never knew there were funeral train cars!

And yes, I biked to & from it!

Unconfirmed but fits in line with our other women’s professional sports teams named after weather like Storm & Reign (homophone)
