The throughline I see on the @economist.com’s list of most liveable cities is these are all places with robust transit, walkable and, mostly, bikeable urban environments.

Both Sydney and Melbourne are investing in new Metros, for example.

Never mind every other single abominable or corrupt thing to this miserable moment, the extrajudicial and unevidenced execution of 34 human beings by the U.S. Navy on the orders of a U.S. President acting in peacetime is sufficient for his impeachment and conviction.

If we were a republic, I mean.

There remain many people of good will in the U.S. govt, men and women who believe that

–official statistics should be true and not just whatever Trump wants them to be;

–decisions about vaccination should be based on science;

–the former FBI director up on bogus charges should not be perp walked:
"WASHINGTON, Oct 3 (Reuters)—An FBI agent was relieved of duty for declining to arrange a 'perp walk' of the bureau's former director, James Comey, in front of news media cameras after Comey was federally charged last month, four people briefed on the matter said."

Nearly each day, I encounter armed National Guard troops. Masked, weapons-wielding thugs intimidate schoolchildren in my neighborhood. My home is persistently buzzed by low-flying, circling copters.

And the best the Democratic House leader can come up with about it is a passing “unlawful” comment.
The Trump administration’s threat to deploy troops in Portland is unlawful.

Here’s a thought.

Focus on protecting the healthcare of the American people.

I just spent a week in Portland. The city was busy with tourists and locals enjoying late summer. A prosperous downtown. Factually, there is no observable evidence of a city needing military intervention. A reminder that this is not normal. Please pay attention.

President Trump said Saturday he will send troops to Portland, "authorizing Full Force, if necessary" to handle "domestic terrorists" as he expands his controversial deployments to more U.S. cities.

He talks about moving a World Cup game out of Chicago because it has high crime, which is interesting because there is no game slated for Chicago.

But Dallas has a World Cup game, and Dallas has a higher violent crime rate than Chicago, and Dallas has a Republican mayor

… oh, OK, I see it now.

The Free Speech President has now pulled two of the three major late night hosts off the air through threats and intimidation because of their jokes. Obviously I’m behind Jimmy Kimmel 100% in the face of this fascist garbage. Speech against this admin isn’t just being chilled, they’re freezing it.

Just a reminder: they were never actually against cancel culture. They were against the cancellation of people they agree with or like. They’ve always been enthusiastically in favor cancelling people they don’t like. If you took them at their word you’re a useful idiot.
Rand Paul: "People say, 'Oh, people have a right to say things.' Well, actually they don't necessarily have a right to say things. Many people have in their contract what we call a morals clause ... I think it is time for this to be a crackdown on people."
