For those (especially graduate students) interested in the intersection of sports economics, sport history, baseball, and segregation-integration, this data strikes me as an extremely valuable resource. Thank you for sharing @trevondlogan.bsky.social

Community college enrollment has been declining since 2009/10. The optimal policy response to this depends on the root of this decline.

I'm thrilled @nber.org today released my working paper with Harvard PhD Joe Winkelmann titled:

Dang. Good thing they got rid of that BCS computer thingamabob - which would have crowned the end of season 1-2 matchup the national champ already - and gave us absolutely no controversy at all anymore.

So I’ve long been a bigger fan of CFB than NFL (I don’t even watch NFL). It’s not necessarily b/c of talent *level.*

And I would argue this perception is a function of the labor pool of The Elite of the Elite is larger than the aggregate league rosters. Expansion fixes this.
One of my readers observed that baseball is the only sport where the enjoyment of the game decreases as the athleticism of the players increases. I don't know if I totally agree, but it's striking that so much of what we don't care for in the game these days is a function of guys being too good.
This is a good dive into something we've been talking about for a while and which many people refuse to admit:

fielders are too good, low BA is not just hitters wanting launch angle or whatever

More hits? Make it harder on fielders.

When a University President describes university spending as "losing money" the goal is propaganda, not truth. Almost every dollar a university spends is "losing money" -- their goal is to spend all their money down to zero each each to fulfill their nonprofit mission. thehill.com/opinion/educ...

Any chance you federal data folks know if this sort of data exists specifically for cable over a long period (say, back to 1975ish)? Mainly looking for *county-level* expansion of cable availability over time (zip code would be super great, but I don't expect that).

I see plenty of Very Serious College Faculty have again jumped on the “only 10 athletic depts make a profit” silliness.

As someone pretty publicly critical of college sports and the sociopaths within for the past 15 years, it’s possible to do so w/o spewing misleading talking points like this.

Meanwhile, the rest of us who have spent our lives just trying to do the best work we can are going to start moving toward total nihilism. It’s really hard to care about much when your job can just be faked while Dean Bean Counter is happy with the slop as long as nobody else notices.

Michigan has the same record as the team that beat them, who is ranked 8th in the AP. From what I can tell, this makes Michigan ranked 9th.

I will not be taking any questions or comments, thank you.
