Softbank is approaching Cramer levels of "whatever they're buying, make sure you buy the opposite"

And then instead of being a good little moderate Truman integrated the military and set the party on the path toward the civil rights movement lol
The Democratic party basically kneecapped FDRs final term and installed Truman as his VP knowing his health was beginning to turn because they didn't like that FDR had that kind of power base and they wanted a hardcore centrist less willing to listen to socialists like Hopkins.

The level of cope here is incredible lol

all they have to do is lampshade it and move on. Do the Holmes "walked backwards in his own footprints from the waterfall" thing even though that makes literally 0 sense
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

The US had a brief but successful military coup and nobody cared! It's bonkers!
Extremely tangential, but the Jan 6th - Jan 20th triumvirate is one of those things that is unknown to most of the population. It has had no effects, and I thought it would.
one of the weirdest things that people believe on a website where the collective mood changes every thirty-six hours is that events completely unknown to 60% of the population, where 90% have the facts wrong, will have persistent effects eighteen months later

One thing I know for sure, if there's an afterlife LBJ and Harry Reid are waiting there for Schumer and he will not enjoy the meeting

I'm bored waiting for tests to run at work so here's a hot take I believe but am not especially committed to: listening to audiobooks isn't actually equivalent to reading the books because having a narrator eliminates the work of interpreting the tone of the text

I think I've finally settled on a point of reference of Sliwa's vibe, and it's "French reactionaries who joined the Resistance out of outraged nationalist pride", which is helpful because those people both a) were useful and b) sucked shit

in retrospect Jar Jar was a surprisingly accurate and insightful depiction of a Senator in Episode 3 tho
Again, we are talking about a movie that prominently features Jar Jar Binks.
How shocking that a writer for The New York Times is so pissy about a trilogy of movies that deal with political corruption

FDR would have killed these people with his bare hands lol

like, if you are unwilling to experience or inflict suffering to try to mount a serious challenge to fascism you have no fucking place in small d democratic politics
like this is basically it, the melts melted under pressure

guess I should call my two slightly less worthless than some of their peers senators and demand to know why they haven't already voted to remove Schumer and Durbin from leadership

L2RT: The Democrats' strategy is to convince voters there's literally no reason to ever bother electing a Democrat

I heard from a bunch of federal employees last night and this morning. They aren't happy.

"I would rather be an actual pawn. At least pawn sacrifices are calculated and achieve something. All this for a fucking meaningless vote."

At some point we may need to consider the possibility that these people are literally on the payroll of (or having their families held hostage by) Trump, because it's honestly hard to believe anyone is *actually* this fucking stupid
Hassan: With the government reopening shortly, Republicans now finally have to come to the table. Or make no mistake, Americans will remember who stood in the way.

the GOP has been gnawing at the foundations of liberalism that keep us out of the war of all against all. I understand the desire not to acknowledge that, because what it implies is horrifying, but at some point you have to
November 10, 2025 at 3:13 AM
I mean the theory of victory there is not actually hard to understand, it's just that nobody wants to say their theory of victory is "the final resort implicitly left open to the People by the Constitution is a mutiny"
November 10, 2025 at 3:09 AM
They literally didn't believe Trump would do anything but surrender (because obviously they'd have been tripping over themselves to surrender) so they had absolutely no plan for what to do if he was fine burning the country down
i think also senators are incredibly wigged out about airways, snap, and federal works (AFGE is absolutely why Kaine jumped on this grenade)
