I love engaging with art via both its analysis and its creation; cinema and the written word are my mediums of choice. BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. Bylines at Go! Eastern Oregon and MovieBabble, former VP for EOFF. Thank you for your time.
Despite the fact that I maintain PERFECT BLUE as the best individual film from this marathon, it has been MAD GOD that's stuck with me. It's the best encapsulation of the night's theme, the best amalgamation of the rest of the films, and certainly the best to watch bleary-eyed in the dead of night.

13. CASTRATION MOVIE ANTHOLOGY ii. THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS (2025, Louise Weard)
Specifically, starting after the intermission. The only film I hadn't seen yet. Made us both physically ill. Many thoughts. In short: rough (maybe complimentary??).

12. THINGU (2012, Lee Hardcastle)
Last wife rewatch. It's perfection.

11. THE SITTERS (2024, Hannah Franklin)
Yes, this is an accurate depiction of cats.

10. PERFECT BLUE (1997, Satoshi Kon)
An all-timer slam-dunk, of course, though it might've been a bit late for my wife to process all the plot (to be fair, it took me three viewings to get it down myself)

9. LET THE CORPSES TAN (2017, Hélène Cattet & Bruno Forzani)
Perhaps the least fitting to both the "descent" theme and the horror genre, but a desperately needed, ecstatically bright shot of adrenaline.

8. THE DEMON (1972, Kichachiro Kuwamoto)
Sad, simple, beautifully produced.

7. MAD GOD (2022, Phil Tippett)
Masterpiece of the creative spirit. Also just gross for a lot of it. Props.

6. DOODLEBUG (1997, Christopher Nolan)
Another rewatch for the wife. The dude has only ever made one movie, hasn't he?

5. THE RETURN: PART EIGHT -- GOTTA LIGHT? (2017, David Lynch)
Lined this one up perfectly with my wife's first watch of TWIN PEAKS, and no, they were not prepared.

4. PREMONITIONS FOLLOWING AN EVIL DEED (1995, David Lynch)
My wife's first rewatch. It's about as dense as 55 seconds of silent image can get. Fucking fantastic.

3. L'INFERNO (1911, Giuseppe de Ligurio et al.) (the feature-length one -- yes, there're 2 Italian adaptations of Dante's Inferno from 1911)
A film we've long wanted to see together, having read 2/3rds of the Comedia together so far. It's remarkably faithful and thorough, and a hell of a spectacle.

2. MALIGNANT (2021, James Wan)
A delightful mystery, with even more delightful (and gross) revelations! Wife had a blast, as did I.

1. LIGHTS OUT (2013, David Sandberg)
Started with a bang -- freaked the hell out of my wife, which rarely happens.

Below is a quote I’ve been thinking about a lot for the past several months. It’s by James Baldwin, on his decision to leave the U.S. in 1948.

I think I’m there.

We were in PDX just for the day, and managed to catch a screening of AMERICAN PSYCHO. If only we had come the following day:

You’ve inherited a movie theater, what’s your first double feature?

I’ve already programmed I SAW THE TV GLOW and THE MATRIX for EOU, so I’ll go with:

So I finally saw Bakshi’s WIZARDS:
- Lovely to see a fellow thot with my name.
- A very faithful adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, aka I have most of the same problems with it as I do with TLotR.
- A film’s message being “the projector must be destroyed” is wild.
- Peace is a great character.

What do you consider to be the Mount Rushmore of horror movies?

My picks:

He came to the Eastern Oregon Film Festival last year (he was in four films!). We chatted Dropout, improv, Vic Michaelis, and our individual adventures driving through Hell's Canyon. He teased Game Changer S7's shenanigans: as it would be revealed, he'd filmed "One Year Later" just two weeks prior.
