"You don't have to go with me to every Blight-infested corner," Kione says. It's carefully neutral in the way he is sometimes, infuriating but also kind of cute. Davrin can't tell if he's trying to let him down gently about it or avoiding an apology.

"Not true," Davrin counters easily.

"Taash could—" Kione starts, but Davrin isn't about to hear that again.

"Taash could not," he insists. Kione shifts to stare at him, frustration forming his mouth into a pout. Davrin tries not to let it work on him. "It's my job to deal with Blight. And to protect you," he adds. Kione doesn't seem to have an argument for that one, which is what Davrin hoped. Not that Taash doesn't do a decent job in their own right, but when it comes to keeping everyone alive? Davrin knows he's the best choice.

Kione sits near his shoulder on the bed, looking down at him with a concerned little crease between his eyebrows, and then his fingers brush against Davrin's temple with a breath of frost. Davrin can't help but startle a little, and Kione pauses, watching him with those damn doe eyes.

"Is this alright?" Kione asks, as though the question wasn't already radiating off him.

It's a fair thing to ask, Davrin supposes. There's no secret that magic makes him a little uneasy, and Kione has never seemed particularly bothered by that. Davrin was open about never having been with a mage shortly after they got together, and it hasn't come up much since. Kione seemed much more concerned about being qunari—looking too intimidating or physically overpowering Davrin by accident. Thinking about why he might have that reaction still pisses Davrin off, though Kione has relaxed a lot since he realized Davrin can take it.

"Feels nice," Davrin says after a pause, because it does. Kione's cool fingers against his temple feel incredible, actually, and his headache is already starting to ease. A small, pleased smile curves Kione's mouth, and his eyes get even softer, and Davrin's stomach flutters.

"Don't look at me like that," he says without any bite.

"How should I look at you?" Kione murmurs, a glint in his eye, and Davrin feels his cheeks going hot.

Much as he might like to pursue that line of conversation, he feels drained after earlier. He lets out a wordless grumble, his eyelashes fluttering in surprise as Kione's fingers move to rub at the base of his skull. "Oh," he says weakly, surprised by how quickly the pain starts to melt. His own fingers curl into Kione's coat of their own accord and Kione chuckles, shifting to lie down with him instead. Then Kione's lips press against his neck, cold from his magic, and Davrin sucks in a sharp breath.

"Breathe for me, Dav," Kione says, voice low and tender. Davrin does, slightly overwhelmed by the amount of care obvious in every move Kione makes. Not that it's new—Neve likes to tease Davrin about how she's always watching Kione run past her door to see him, sometimes with a brief pause to ruffle Assan's cheeks. (Davrin can only hope that he wasn't too obvious about needing to sit with his head in his hands for a while after hearing that. The cuteness truly defies understanding.)

"Helping?" Kione prompts as his knuckles brush against Davrin's jaw. At least some of the touching seems to be turning into Kione just wanting to, which is nice in an entirely different way.

"More than you know," Davrin admits. Kione smiles into his skin, and Davrin feels like his chest is being squeezed.
