For all the world’s linguistic diversity, human languages still obey some universal patterns to make language easy to learn and use.

Humpback whale songs recorded over 8 years closely adhered to a Zipf’s law. Other studies suggest they follow brevity law and Menzerath’s law.

Whale Songs Obey Basic Rules of Human Languages

I think there should be studying for fun groups. You could meet up for a few hours of studying alongside other people and being all excited about what you have learned with people who get the happiness. There could be comfy chairs and snacks! :) #studysky #langsky

Right, trying again to get a positive experience out of working through a book. I want to pull the threads of my Gàidhlig together and make sure I have actually learned the basics of communication! #Langsky

Getting back into languages by giving myself a fortnight to dabble. I'm enjoying it but still drawn to my normal TL's. This makes me happy! :)

Given where I live, it would make so much more sense for me to focus on Polish though (or even Romanian). I'd probably get a chance to use those!

Why is the word used different in these examples even though both objects are female? Why a ta ending in one and te in the other? #langsky

Interesting how this year seems to have turned into the Scottish Gaelic and French year. Let's see how long that's the case :)

#Audiobooks I have books from MP3, borrobox, audible, kobo and audiobooks.com. it's a faff navigating between so many different services.

Anyone found a player where I can access multiple libraries?

Anyone else on #Langsky not trying to be a polyglot? I really love languages and I'll acknowledge I wanted to speak something other than English (since a lot of English speakers seem not to). Still, it's not like I'm here learning because I want to be a polyglot, I just find language fascinating! :)

Listening to English audiobooks at increased speeds (so getting really used to quick speech) has had the unexpected effect of helping with my comprehension in my TL's. Speech at normal speed feels slower and more comprehensible than it did before! #langsky :)

1. A language studied but mostly forgotten 🇩🇪 (school)

2. A language you find most melodic 🇸🇪

3. A language you wish you learned as a kid 🇨🇳🇰🇷🇵🇱 Basically one of the 'hard' ones!

4. A language that feels like home (besides native one)🇲🇫

5. A language you'd love to teach someday. Any I could
