@busrapidtransit.bsky.social Have you heard that the county is apparently preparing to move forward with the shared-use path plan on Nicollet?

Sure! It's an ongoing study about a design to right-size the corridor from about OSR to Veness Rd. Right now they are working with 3 concepts: shared-use paths, both sides, one-way protected bike lanes both sides, or a two-way PBL, one side.

Of course! We are still getting started but there are some big projects coming up. Of note are Bloomington Ferry, American Boulevard, and Nicollet Avenue. I can share more about any of those if you like.

“Ultimately, I hope in my time on the Council I have demonstrated the ability to listen and learn from others that have different experiences than mine.”

With that said, I drive a PHEV that can use all electric to and from work. My wife drives a Mini Cooper and my daughter has a Kia hybrid. Our oldest daughter has a a bus pass and is really excited about the MetroMicro.

As a small business owner with offices in Burnsville and Edina it has proven to be impractical. I did look into biking when the 35W bridge over the MN River was built, but have not found a way to do it that meets my teams and clients needs. 🧵

Kids should be able to safely walk to school and parks, people should be able to get to their favorite destinations and friends, and senior should have safe access to transportation.

“I also recognize that I didn't answer about my own use. In this area I do not use public transportation. 🧵

“I have been very supportive of biking and walking trails within the community. Our current system includes some great areas and has too many missing connections. My vision is a safe system for recreation, personal use (shopping, etc), and commuter. 🧵

...to improve this situation. I am also happy that Metro Micro meets a need I have heard from many seniors in our community that they do not qualify for Metro Mobility, struggle with personal transportation, and have physical limitations to get to a bus stop. 🧵

Expanding bus service is something the Council has been discussing for several years. This is particularly important for me because most of the Bloomington 2nd District does not have bus service. I have been pushing Metro Transit and started conversations with Southwest Transit... 🧵

“As my hiking and biking is more for leisure, most of my experience comes from my family helping blind and handicapped people try to navigate Old Shakopee/98th Street with incredible difficulty. In typical fashion, the current administration does a lot of studying and great planning but... 🧵

As a candidate, one of my priorities is to bridge the gap between the residents and the city council so if there are concerns, I want to make sure you feel comfortable having those discussions and presenting possible solutions to those concerns.” 🧵

I understand you are passionate and clearly have more knowledge on this topic than I do. If you have concerns or specific examples of where Bloomington could improve, I would enjoy learning more on this topic. 🧵

His routes using the available common bike routes have been a positive experience. When we are going into Minneapolis or St. Paul, we will often use the light rail or metro transit and have found those options to be sufficient for our needs. 🧵

• Push for protected bike lanes in redevelopment zones and near schools

• Support transit-oriented development and better bus stop infrastructure

• Prioritize sidewalk and crosswalk upgrades in rental and senior areas

• Ensure active mobility is built into every planning and zoning decision” 🧵

• Many arterial roads are unsafe for cyclists and pedestrians

• Apartment-heavy and commercial zones lack sidewalk connectivity

• Transit stops often lack shelter, lighting, and safe access
