Chester has no time for cutesy nativity sets given to us by friends, even sets that are cat-themed.

Another evening walk along the White Rock pier to see the lights. Including obligatory passing trains.

And now for a little timeline cleanse, a couple of photos for #Caturday.

Today's holiday baking: White chocolate "soccer ball" cookies.
Made under the supervision of big Melanie - who spent half the time roaring about how I was hiding roast chicken leftovers in the fridge and not sharing.

Our great blue heron came down from its rooftop perch to prowl around the courtyard pond tonight.

Tonight's moon over White Rock.

A stately great blue heron presides over a group of sleepy ducks and gulls in the waters behind the bulwark at the end of the White Rock pier tonight.

More Christmas lights along the shore by the pier in White Rock.

A few shots of a passenger train limbering past the White Rock pier and the town's shoreline Christmas lights tonight.

After taking a few photos of the Christmas lights and pier in White Rock with my cell cam earlier this evening, I got home and discovered some unintentional but cool lens flares in a couple of the pics.

I did my annual Christmas rewatch of The Black Hole the other day.
Yes, The Black Hole *is* a Christmas movie.
I am willing to die on this hill, like B.O.B. on a catwalk high above the main corridor on a crumbling spaceship.

The season for holiday baking and confectioning has arrived!
I've started with chocolate nut clusters because I miss buying Nutchos in the old days. Who else misses treats from Smiles 'n Chuckles?

Sunset at the White Rock pier this afternoon, complete with a great blue heron patrolling the shallows.

I loved the prolonged reference to The Great Escape in season 5 of Stranger Things. Here's hoping it'll grab the curiosity of another generation and encourage them to seek-out that wonderful film - and maybe even look into the true story that inspired it.

Our great blue heron is standing sentinel over the courtyard again tonight like a comic book superhero.

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

One of the great things about finally being home from the hospital is being able to cook (and eat!) good food again. Today it was two pans of bbq beans.
Of course, I'm still not allowed to lift anything more than 10 pounds (don't rip the wires out of your heart, dummy!) so my wife had to carry them.

They found the X-Files alien cave!
November 24, 2025 at 5:52 AM
The best crash scene, without a doubt, is the alien ship (eventually Macross/SDF-1) tearing through the atmosphere and carving into Macross Island at the opening of the Macross/Robotech anime series.
Few others have captured just how much damage something that big moving that fast would actually do.
