@timfullerton.bsky.social I am genuinely asking you to sit with that, and think about why that is⬆️

Why do you think someone like him should be given the most powerful position, rather than "redeeming" himself by working to support those that have been DOING good work for years...?

In what way does "allowing folks to redeem themselves" mean that the path of redemption *begins* by leapfrogging into a US Senate seat?

Why should those who have NOT done "abhorrent things," step aside from leadership, in order to make way for HIM to be one of the most powerful ppl in the world?
He could work in an org dedicated to getting men like him out of what he euphemistically calls "a bad place"🙄

He has no standing to be Senator

& yet w his background, & his zero experience he wholly believes he DESERVES it, as do his very recent followers because he repeats the Prog Bro buzzwords

Virginia just elected a Democratic governor with only 38% of white men voting for her. New Jersey did the same with only 41% of white men voting for her, so I think we good.
Ok guess we just don’t win the presidency or the senate or the house ever again.

So we should lower the bar for men?
In order to move men, we have to welcome folks who have done things in the past we abhor. We have to allow folks to redeem themselves.

It’s sometimes uncomfortable, but it’s the only way we can win moving forward.

The math doesn’t math without more men.

When Obama passed the ACA my bill was cut IN HALF.
Anyone who tells you that kind of improvement doesn't matter is full of s**t.
Premiums CUT IN HALF.
That is what he did.
A Democrat.
Now we see premiums doubling and tripling.
BECAUSE OF THE GOP.
Different parties.
Different outcomes.

Democrats work to get more americans healthcare.
Republicans do the opposite.
This is the basic dynamic, and has been for decades.
Don't get confused.

So is the current reality.

The copy here is an all-time example of NY Times passive voice. Matt Gaetz has no agency here.

Even in the image, look at the phrase "left vulnerable to exploitation." Who exploited her?

New York Times social media guidelines prohibit expression suggesting partiality on things like ICE, execution of foreigners in fishing boats, or whether law is a thing.

However, tipping off notorious serial pedophiles about other reporters is absolutely fine.

The same sort of people will swiftly and pointedly state what the "age of consent" is in the state or country that's being spoken about. That's something they have memorized.

For some reason.
I think it was @seananmcguire.bsky.social who said to me, wisely, that there are two kinds of people who make the distinction: those for whom it's scientifically or psychologically significant (frequently, including victims), and excusers.

you could fact check this — there aren’t 30 million illegal immigrants and there is no evidence that the presence of an immigrant in say houston has any impact on housing in madison, wisconsin — or you could note straightforwardly that this is just nazi rhetoric
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

Trump & Republicans can find $2 billion to rename the Department of Defense.

But they can’t find the money to make your health care more affordable.

Give me a break.
Trump's Pentagon name change could cost up to $2 billion
Officially changing the Department of Defense to the Department of War can only be done by Congress and would require updating thousands of signs, rewriting digital code and creating new letterheads,...

This is a great summary of why the "What was there to even report on?" argument is total hogwash when talking about the NYTimes and other legacy media institutions:
It’s clear when the paper’s Politics Knowers think something is important, journalistic standards are no obstacle. They find a way to get that thing on the front page nonstop, whether it’s “reporting the controversy,” repeating right-wing info dumps, or meta-coverage of how it’s affecting politics

"materials that no journalists...managed to get access to before now" is not an exonerating statement when talking about a NYTimes journalist who had a documented relationship with Epstein! One might conclude the reason we haven't had access is because of a lack of journalistic ethics!
We’re seeing materials that no journalists, not Julie Brown, not Ronan Farrow, not anyone from any paper, managed to get access to before now. The conspiracy theories bouncing around about NYT are nothing more than a show people’s ignorance of what goes into a real piece of investigative journalism

"Let's say an editor knew that one of their reporters was maintaining a compromising personal relationship with a notorious sex trafficker whose influenced reached as high as the president and the British royal family. What are they supposed to do, follow up? Tell somebody?" WHAT????????????
Do we know Landon told anyone that he was having this convo with Epstein? We do not! But let’s say an editor knew. Then what? At most, it would be the beginning of an investigation. Would Landon be the reporter to do it? Probably not! You see he’s begging Epstein for specifics & doesn’t get them

And we're the crazy ones for expecting that an investigative journalist might follow up a bit instead of just sitting on the information indefinitely while maintaining personal correspondence with said sex trafficker!
I am not defending Landon’s relationship with Epstein. In fact, the NYT didn’t even try to defend it. He left the paper. What I’m saying is that a piece of investigative journalism that exposes a secret, criminal act such as statutory rape requires far more than what is in these emails.

This is actually a pretty perfect encapsulation of the abject media failure that got us here: a prolific sexual predator who had close connections to the country's most powerful people is "a guy" and a two-time president is just "somebody" so the things they said about each other aren't newsworthy.
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.
