I agree that passivity is the issue generally. I don’t agree that the Caicedo goal is a good example. In fact, I’d say it was the opposite. If you look at this moment here. If Macca steps off we’re sorted he jumps in and leaves Virgil 2v1 (which why he doesn’t challenge Caicedo)

I’m probably reading way too much into this, but I find the way this graphic is presented quite telling - the analyst sees the “true” position as the one given by the data and clubs’ actual positions are shown as a variance from that, rather than vice versa.
