If you look closely at the mushroom on the right, you can see a reddish glow where the sunlight is shining through an emerging drop of black liquid oozing from the cap. This liquid is filled with spores!

A pair of shaggy ink cap mushrooms growing from the woodland floor. The mushrooms have tall, narrow, cylindrical caps that are white and very 'shaggy', with 'scales' over the surface. Towards the bottom of the cap, the flesh is starting to turn black and is oozing a black “ink”, a signature of ink cap mushrooms. The stem is smooth and off-white.

A juvenile green woodpecker (Picus viridis) photographed on grass, looking upwards with dirt hanging from their beak. A digital painting of a saluki, a dog breed evidenced in archaeology to have emerged over 5,000 years ago. The saluki is referenced in ancient artworks found in Middle Eastern tombs. The dog has been drawn in a cute cartoonish style, while still maintaining its renowned dignified look. The style is somewhat “scribbly” and you can see that the artist has tried to use a lot of different textures. The dog is slender with silky golden fur, a long narrow snout, sparkly eyes and long floppy ears hanging down beside her neck. She is wearing a collar based upon a real artefact: a leather dog collar discovered in the tomb of Maiherpri, an ancient Egyptian noble buried in the Valley of the Kings. It’s thought to be the oldest example of a dog collar discovered so far. The collar features two horses facing one another. It has a scalloped trim and is wider than regular dog collars. This is typical of the collars worn by salukis and other sighthounds today. The background of the painting is dark green and textures, with little yellow stars and a crescent moon.
