Oh god it's so true! I tend to have three or four books on the go but it's when you finish something really good and you just know that the next T one won't be the same and the whole immersion process has to begin again regardless

Oh my 😀 By all accounts she became lovely in her old age (first hand reports from witnesses including my wife, my mum, several friends and, er, me), though reading her 70s memoir it's clear what a chaotic mess she was much of the time!

I've been reading Jilly Cooper's memoirs lately and, as well as bringing nostalgia-by-proxy for my own childhood, it's a fascinating reminder of how some things, among middle class white people at least, really were totally accepted then that are (obviously and correctly) awful now.
