A macro photo of the head and forebody of a green stink bug who is resting on light blue siding. The stink bug's green head is triangular, with a narrow band of yellow along the sides. The eyes are on the rear sides and are gray. The forebody comes to a point on either side, which is bright red, a line of which, bordered with yellow, extends down the sides to the head. The surface of the forebody has a dimpled texture.

reminder that if you are interested in drawing people and want to get better at proportions and anatomy, I can't recommend enough the MORPHO line of reference books - I have these, as well as the larger in depth skeletal/muscle reference one, and they are absolutely stellar resources

A couple of pics of a pair from a blackwater dive in Balayan Bay, Anilao. I think this is a phyllosoma (the larval stage of a lobster) riding a purple-striped jelly which is really too small for it... ID very tentative in both cases though!

the ways we depict #evolution can still give an erroneous progressive view (that evolution leads to humans or ‘increased complexity’).

Depictions of evolution where a phylogeny often has humans on the far right or top can give an impression of evolution being progressive of leading to ‘increased complexity’ when it does not. Top figure shows such a phylogeny which can look the same as ‘the March of progress’ depiction most commonly used to depict evolution (showing monkey to man erroneous march of evolution) - instead swiveling some nodes on a phylogeny where humans are shown closer to the center (which doesn’t change relationships) can lead to better ‘tree thinking’
