Hate to see my man #PeterLeko dumped out of the tournament after a fine run of victories. Probably issues of stamina and fatigue involved, playing against a much younger man in the rapid time controls.

Featuring Vito Scotti; much beloved of Columbo fans for his many comedic guest appearances.

Interesting watching The Master Game how infinitely superior it is to a recent botched BBC attempt to broadcast chess, which not even the delightful David Howell could save; even with primitive bodge-up technologies like silhouetted pieces moved by hand and shot from under a glass coffee table.

Two great English competitors and men of wrath were born on this tract of Lancashire turf, just four miles across. The magnificent but murderous #DynamiteKid from Goldborne, and Leigh's own Nigel Short.

Also Buzzcocks legend Pete Shelley.

Tony wobbled on for a couple of unhappy decades of mental and physical poor health. Here's our Nige celebrating his demise with a hateful obituary, gloating about revenge-fucking Tony's girlfriend.

My abiding memory of this book is that he tried to blame Doris Day for the whole appalling episode.

The creeps lawyering hard to get these women paroled are the skeeviest of the skeevy.

If you see this, post an album cover with a motor vehicle on it.

Looks great, I'd love a copy. A few of my favourites on the cover there.

Clockwise: Bruno, Ray Stevens, The Grappler Len Denton, Lance Russell, Sputnik Monroe, Vader and my hero #BobbyTheBrainHeenan.

Get it signed "Thank you. Fuck You. Bye." by Jimmy.

Candidates?

Bearing in mind that Jerry may have been squinting across the studio at comics in his spinner rack and not striving for exact likenesses.

Is like to know what Clark is reading; Lois with the Year One omnibus.

Both our goals today were headers from balls crossed in from out wide.

When is this dimwit going to understand that #ManchesterUnited was built on our wingers, our thrilling and charismatic wide boys?!

This crouching clown is going to destroy another great striker.

Benched, no service from out wide because our wingers play through the middle, our genius playmaker doing Casemiro's running in midfield.

Starved of service, demoralised. Crocked.

Clever and helpful of #AlanMoore to begin The Great When with a musical rehearsal: woodwind, brass, timpani...

You must get your ear in, he is telling you - writing in iambic metre, you must fall into Alan's rhythm, begin walking in step before you can run with his glorious prose.

Can you be sure of that? Better hang on to them just in case! 😉

Those short story collections a very special indeed. Bill Sienkiewicz doesn't do many book covers - only other one I can think of is Moby Dick, and that's just a page pulled from his comic book adaptation.

You got the @bsienk.bsky.social editions? Maximum #pkd envy! Lovely hardbacks of the early mainstream novels too. I have never seen a finer bookshelf.

Swindled! Wesley, my sleeper pick for the tournament win, had a forced stalemate which he failed to find and concedes the victory to Titas Stremavicius.

I haven't seen that cover art before, it's tremendous. Phil's first masterpiece. Ideas therein ransacked for The Truman Show and #Gravity'sRainbow by #ThomasPynchon.

Companion or parallel novel to my absolute favourite #PhilipKDick book, Confessions of a Crap Artist.

This joint plays the worst music out of any bar I've ever been in. Though they did just play a surf guitar version of #DropoutBoogie so they can't be completely evil. #CaptainBeefheart #AdapterAdapter

Micky continues his unbeaten start to the tournament with a quick draw against Nigel Short's old enemy and Topalov stooge Cheparinov.

Watching Bill Duke play a jive-talking pimp (Type-cast? Who me?) in Kojak I am reminded that he is just about the single worst actor I have ever seen. Best you can say about him is he made Hizonner #JesseVentura look good in Predator.

Was never much of a fan of Ellison's fiction but this is one of his better efforts. There was a video game, a BBC radio adaptation - starring Harlan and David Soul! - and a comic book by adaptation John Byrne.

And what kind of bullshit substitutions are these? Desperate for a winner to go into second place, our clueless formation obsessive makes two like-for-like defensive changes. Notwithstanding recent positive results, I remain more convinced than ever he must go. #AmorimOut

Will bang average Blackburn Rovers winger, Mackintosh Man Jason Wilcox, continue his media charm offensive, basking in the glory of a couple of decent results? Nut down this week Jase, we were lucky to come away with a point against relegation candidates with Sean Dyche as manager. #MUFC
