This wasn't a discussion about Israel - it was about antisemitism in New York, which prompted you to call ADL, a Jewish civil rights org, "horrible." But obsessing about Israel while ignoring real genocides (Sudan), or holding Jewish orgs to different standards -- that's antisemitism in action.

Sorry, but agreeing to disagree about Jew hatred is not something I can brook. There was a time when people would have been embarrassed to make such hateful statements in public. It scares me that people on the far left like you are so openly comfortable with it.

By all means, yes. Let's interfere with the reporting of hate crimes.

Literally over a dozen stories that cite the Stop AAPI hate self-reported data. Do a search. Yet no skeptical questions from NPR reporters about the need for self-reporting of hate. Not one.

NPR had no problem with a tip line whose purpose was for people to self-report incidents of anti-Asian hate. Why the double standard?

Asian Americans Experience 'Far More' Hate Incidents Than Numbers Indicate
Racially motivated attacks against Asian Americans have been on the rise since the start of the pandemic, but a Los Angeles-based civil rights group says the actual numbers are even higher.

What a disgraceful thing to say. At a time when Jews are the victims of more documented hate crimes than any other group, despite being 2% of the population, you object to an org that tracks the abuse. Shame on you.

What on earth are you talking about? Bari Weiss's site is center-right and fully mainstream. And it has far more ideological diversity than NPR in general and On the Media in particular. You and they do the literal exact thing you accuse "conservative belief" of.

Her politics are center right. Her opinions are broadly mainstream on most issues. And there's far more ideological diversity on The Free Press than on NPR. If you want to understand why NPR is out of touch with most of America, just listen to this segment.

On this one, my friend, we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't doubt that the phrases are accurate or your desire to be respectful. I just don't like torturing the language to get there.

And some are just vexing, like why suddenly it's "unhoused" rather than "homeless." How's that better?
August 12, 2025 at 7:06 PM
FWIW, Fox News does the exact opposite: tons of stores about the high rate of violent crime to justify the surge, without the context that it's been declining.

Both sets of facts are true. It's all about what story you want to tell.

I just want the whole picture.

I live here. DC empirically has among the highest murder rates in the US. It's largely safe for the wealthy and tourists. For the poor and vulnerable, it's among the most dangerous in the US.

My beef is that you report on declining rate to discredit the surge but ignore the city's actual ranking.
August 12, 2025 at 5:10 PM
C'mon Brian. Your argument is that Trump is rolling out the troops despite declines in crime. But you ignore the actual crime stats, which STILL paint DC as one of the most dangerous cities in the US - which of course is the justification.
August 12, 2025 at 4:33 PM
I don't doubt you're well-intentioned. But can't you see how this kind of language comes off as clumsy and patronizing? (And of course dictated by the whims of whatever advocacy group NPR listened to last).

No one talks like this.
August 12, 2025 at 4:29 PM
"People without housing" + "People living in the U.S. without legal status" + "people experiencing addiction."

Do you know anyone, anywhere, who talks like this?

And of course you report crime rates are down while ignoring that in absolute terms, DC is one of the deadliest cities in the US.
August 12, 2025 at 4:09 PM
Crime is down - but still terrible, especially for the poorest in DC. Trayon White, Ward 8 council member, endorsed Trump's move -- citing intolerably high crime in his overwhelmingly African American district. Opposing more policing is a luxury belief for rich whites in safe neighborhoods.

You are posting misinformation. Texas does not require voter registration by party. And Republicans have won every statewide election by wide margins.
August 11, 2025 at 12:45 PM
This is not accurate. Texas does not require voter registration by party, so these numbers are not a true reflection of party preference. And in statewide races, Republicans consistently win by wide majorities.
