Here's our vid going dozens of blocks on a single green on Manhattan's 3rd Avenue - signal timing is a non-enforcement way to get a handle on ebike (and 🚘 🚛!!) speeds

It’s now the law that cabs/ubers must display an anti-dooring decal on passenger doors (thanks to @cmjengutierrez.bsky.social).

So if you happen to travel that way, take a look & make a note if it’s not there

(Last night’s fatal crash doesn’t seem to have been a for-hire car)

Council Member @cmrestler.bsky.social reports he is discussing better design for bus stops along the Flushing Ave greenway. Right now the demarcated greenway walking & cycling zones devolve into incoherent sidewalks at the stops. A person getting off a bus was recently killed by an ebike rider

Yes! We are here for Greenway-branded wayfinding signs aimed at those outside of 🚘 🛻

Anyone see anything about the “e-bike speed limit” other than in the press?

Looks like we’ll finally get the overnight *full bikeway* markings we’ve been 👀 for since spring #morespaceQBB #bikenyc (more pedestrians in the bikeway today)

We were informed late last week that the *Gateway Tunnel project* (NYC-NJ rail connection) will dig up the W Side Greenway betw 29th & 30th Sts next year

Good news is the #bikenyc right of way will be maintained

It doesn't test whether the W Side Hwy can live with fewer lanes - instead it's 🚲 > 🚁

Anyone's guess when other problem spots along the E Side Greenway will be fixed. The Hospital for Special Surgery *private construction* disruption of the greenway was supposed to be done 2 years ago
October 15, 2025 at 4:36 PM
Anyway, in the *long* term, this is great. It will finally connect the long-stranded waterfront greenway segment between 132nd/145th and connect to a new ramp to the Manhattan-Randall's span of the Triboro

Markings are in & good on the pedestrian side. Why can’t DOT just get out there and re-mark the Queensboro Bridge bikeway? #bikenyc

The two-way section on 1st Ave (~103rd to 125th) is working pretty well, in our experience. Bike volume & signal timing are important factors. We aren't enthused about the idea of 2-way 6th in Midtown as a substitute for a 🚲 lane on 5th, for example. (1st is 2-way because of work on 2nd Ave subway)

We need a lot more parking enforcement in NYC. The city has never even looked at the scale of the problem vs the resources it brings to the job. But it has gotten so bad that Council members proposed allowing citizens to submit violations (Council leaders killed that but did nothing else)

The Court Street bike lane (being implemented now) plus the greenway over the Gowanus Canal/under the expressway adds a nice protected corridor to Brooklyn's #bikenyc network

NYC Greenways Coalition members at work, scouting a greenway detour on abandoned Riverside Park pathways near the GWB -- for the day when Amtrak closes (for rebuilding) ye olde wooden plank bridge. It's doable! @transalt.org @ny4p.bsky.social @eastcoastgreenway.bsky.social #Greenways4NYC

To make this a more effective safety strategy, it would help if DOT actually informed people this is a thing (old pic from the N Point St in SF)
August 27, 2025 at 3:13 PM
And the case for some kind of physical delineator in the door-buffer zone just makes itself every time we're in a NYC "parking protected" bike lane
August 27, 2025 at 3:01 PM
In the sped-up vid it can be hard to appreciate how the *offset intersection* approach slows turning drivers - big contrast to older "mixing zone" approach. Plus the signal timing means cars are likely approaching turns at slow speed
August 27, 2025 at 3:01 PM
Lots of talk about controlling bike speeds. What if there was a carrot vs the fantasy of an enforceable speed limit?

The city has indeed timed signals on 3rd Ave for a reasonable 🚲 speed

Here's 32 blocks all on the green. Savvy riders figure out there's no incentive for throwing down here
August 27, 2025 at 3:01 PM
That thriving subtropical #bikenyc vibe

In case you haven’t been shaken by it yet, a good part of 2nd Ave is *milled*

Leading mayoral candidate @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social renews his pledge to complete the McGuinness Blvd road diet, following allegations the Adams Admin took bribes to water down the project

We've noticed this paint-only one in Sunnyside (43rd St @ Qns Blvd) - it's had a 🚗 parked on it in half of our observations

These are some of the corners on the degraded segments of Bedford. When the bike lane is blocked (all 3 blocks on a recent trip) & you're riding up the travel lane, dunno why you would dive over to this on the corner
