All text on Driver Responsibilities to Cyclists Know Oregon Law Cyclists may use traffic lanes, including most freeways and interstates, even if sidewalks exist ORS 814.400, OAR 734-20-0045 • Even if bike lanes exist, cyclists may use traffic lanes when avoiding hazards, preparing to turn, or passing ORS 814.420 • Cyclists may occupy the full traffic lane when avoiding hazards, preparing left turn, passing, traveling at normal traffic speed, or the lane is too narrow ORS 814.430 Traffic courses teach cyclists to ride in the lane middle because it's most visible and predictable. Riding to the right isn't often practicable, doesn't save time due to risk, encourages drivers to lanesplit, puts cyclists closer to hazards, & eliminates escape routes • Cyclists may ride side-by-side in the traffic lane ORS 814.430(e) • Basic Speed Rule: regardless of limit, your speed must be safe for all conditions, including slower traffic oRs 811.100 • A pass is a full lane change, showing turn signals for each lane change. Lanesplitting in a car is deadly and #1 way cyclists die • You're not impeded if you can pass in reasonable time oRs 811.130 • If there's no safe space for drivers to pass, and a cyclist occupies the full traffic lane slower than the Basic Speed Rule, the cyclist must "ride to the right" or move off the road, when safe to do so, in reasonable time ORS 811.130, 811.425, ORS 814-430 • Passing is illegal near intersections, on hills, on curves, or when visibility is limited ORS 811.065, 811.410 • Never intimidate or try to run a cyclist off the road. This can fall under crimes of assault, menacing, reckless endangerment, and/or harassment ORS 163.190, 163.195, 166.065 • It's illegal to honk other than as a warning of danger ORS 815.225 • Cyclist can roll through stop sign if intersection's clear ORS 814.434 Page. 2 of Driver Responsiblities • Cyclists must signal stops and turns unless both hands are necessary to safely operate the bicycle. ORS 814.440 • Yield to skaters of all types (in cities like Portland and Corvallis), tricycles, recumbents, and Segways as you would to cyclists. They have similar rights and duties. ORS 801.150, 801.259 • Helmets aren't required over age 15, or for religion ORS 814.485 BICYCLE LANES • Before turning, remain in your lane until bike lane is clear. Bike lanes extend through intersections. ORS 811.050, 153.021 "Driver failure to yield while turning" is #1 cause of crash w/ cychists. •Open car doors must not disturb bicycle movement. ORS 811.490 • Motor wheelchairs, small motor scooters, and human-powered mopeds have same rights as cyclists in bike lanes. ORS 811.440 SIDEWALKS & CROSSWALKS • Stop before the sidewalk when emerging from a driveway, users yield to you. ORS 811.505, 811.550(4) • Every corner is a crosswalk. Crosswalks are the prolongation of a sidewalk through a road. If no sidewalk exists, it's where a sidewalk would be. Most have no white marks on the ground. Cyclists invoke their right to cross when any part of their body or bicycle enters the crosswalk, then drivers must stop if safe, then the cyclist may cross. ORS 801.220, ORS 811.028(4) • Illegal to park within 20 feet of crosswalk due to blocked view. Exception: momentary passenger dropoff/pickup ORS 811.550(17) • Cyclist may use sidewalks and crosswalks. Cyclists don't need to dismount. It looks like Greeley School Zones have slightly wider painted bike lanes, on wide 40MPH stroads.

Looked for bike infrastructure. This was the best from a quick search so far. Seriously. BikeLoud has some educating to do.

Greeley, pop. 108,000 (PDX has 652K) is also a little less than half as dense as Portland.
