To give you a sense of where we are: About 67 movies from 2023 have grossed or will gross $25M+ in the US. That's a big jump from 2022, when the # was 49. But in 2019, it was 89, and a few years before that, over 100. And in 2024, the number will drop. I'm not sure it ever goes all the way up again.
Just incredible to me that the movie business is now facing a drought year largely because studios spent six months willingly tying their fortunes to a handful of powerful streamers with no investment in theatrical. This wil likely kill any post-pandemic momentum theatrical exhibition had.

Last year I saw 80+ movies in a cinema. I’d say close to half of those there were 10 people or less in attendance. The movie going experience is in a state flux, and I’m not sure we’re ever going back to the “good ole days.”
