Reminds me of when Liverpool lost out on Bellingham. Ultimately they just made the decision that they needed to spread out that fee over multiple players. Worked out ok for them so far.

This is how I see it: They’ve tried all summer to sell him and have come to the conclusion he’s too expensive to replace. So, pay him more, keep him sweet, but no extension so club isn’t burdened.

Also, we’ve had such high turnover to the squad this window and that isn’t good. Chemistry takes time.

I did say from a reliable source...

To be clear, I don't doubt Berta met Williams's agent. I think he's probably met about 50 agents since he's taken the job already. It's what they do.

Ultimately Aarons's track record makes him unreliable on Arsenal, whether he claims there was a meeting or not.

The Gyokeres link was the first time we heard from a reliable arsenal source we were in for him. All previous chatter has been Sesko and Isak. Call it the cult of Orn if you like

Sure but the real point is it's just not really news. We've been linked with Williams by Ornstein and others for over a year now. I imagine Berta is meeting every agent of every player we have a passing interest in right now, I don't think that adds much if any weight to the links already reported

Ed Aarons has a shocking track record with Arsenal transfers.

The other really big thing is that it's not news at all that we are interested in Nico Williams. Whereas Orn x Gyokeres was the first serious link.

My point is the gov's position is clearly one of extreme discomfort. Clearly Starmer thinks Trump's actions are wrong but he also knows that unless he flatters the shit out of Trump he will lose an ally. The stakes are too high for his staff to speak on his behalf

Thanks Victoria. I don't know who this Stephen guy is, but he's a bit passive aggressive isn't he! Grateful for your support, thought I was going crazy there for a sec 🙏

Thanks for the pass agg tip mate, great use of everyone's time 👍

And for the record: you replied to my post refuting my interpretation, but you offered no clarity what it was you actually meant.

Ok - would you mind telling me the point of your thread, then? Because if all you were saying is "Starmer's staff are not mind-readers" then I'm not sure it really needed to be said. I think it's entirely fair and normal for gov't staff to wait to hear their leader's thoughts before commenting.

Stephen's strongly implying that's a sign of weakness, though. I'd argue the opposite - we are in an incredibly precarious global situation and every statement has to be weighed carefully. Starmer's team is rightly exercising caution, not just defaulting to a dogmatic, fixed position.

Exactly. "I've never shoplifted, except for eggs, which not only do I shoplift every time I go to the shops, I also fuck over one person who doesn't want to buy shitty battery hen eggs"

I mean, he definitely is a Scrooge. And he's already mismanaged the Ten Hag and Ashworth situations at a frankly ludicrous cost.

The Glazers mismanaged the finances, fine. But let's not pretend Ratcliffe is anything other than a billionaire turning a football club into a financial asset.

Agree wholeheartedly with this take. Let's also not overlook the fact that the white shirt is also cursed.

We had luck! They had ten men and we had a penalty at 1-1. Luck is no longer a valid excuse. We need a striker.
January 12, 2025 at 6:25 PM
That's not to say we don't lack star quality too. But we have good enough players to beat Newcastle at home, we just don't have many players in form right now because it's a case of "ok well you are fit enough to play, that's good enough atm"
January 8, 2025 at 9:13 AM
Arteta's spoken a few times about how we lack numbers. When we hit good form, he attributed it to us having more players available to train and how the internal competition that created sharpened everyone. This week he said we had 6 or 7 players training, and last night's performance felt like it.

I don't think it's a disaster for a defender to accumulate 5 yellows by the halfway point of the season. I'm sure a few of them were"good yellows" for the game state. It's just been horrendously compounded by the fact that the other 2 RBs have long term injuries. It's just not our season so far.

Agree to disagree mate

Come on man. He didn't intend to head the ball with the top of his head.
January 4, 2025 at 10:16 PM
You're probably right and more of those should be given! Doesn't change the fact that Pedro got the ball before Saliba and Saliba's challenge took him out. If it was the other way round we'd all be wanting a penalty to be given. If we're gonna be mad about anything, it should be the Gabriel shout
