I still wish I had known sooner. But the past ten years have seen a lot of growth and joy and I'm thankful to have lived them.

But I am so much more at peace with who I am now than ten years ago. Discovering my queerness set me on a path that led me to some of the best people I have ever known and the best community I have ever belonged to.

But I actually DISLIKE being referred to with a title. And it's not just about being nonbinary. I don't want to be called Mx. Robert either. Just call me Robert and stop "correcting" my students.

"well in our culture..." Yeah, I get that. I was also raised to call an adult Title LastName. I developed this opinion independent from my parents' teaching.

I would argue that calling it us MORE respectful for my students to call me Robert (with no title, just my name) than to add on a title just because I'm an adult. That's what I asked them to do.

Respect is not one size fits all. What makes one person feel respected will make another feel disrespected.
