Utrecht is reconstructing a main junction. Traffic lights out, elongated roundabout in.
(Maliebaan/Nachtegaalstraat/Burg. Reigerstraat).
Half the elongated roundabout is already in use. The approaches to the junction under reconstruction. Temporary routes around the road works. Announcement of the road works and an expected date when all should be finished: July 2026.

With a 4 year delay the centre of the Utrecht Maliebaan has finally been closed to cars. A former signalised intersection is now under reconstruction. 1/2

It always brings me joy to see people having fun where a highway once ran. That road through the centre of Utrecht (Netherlands) was such a mistake. I’m still glad the canal came back.

The holidays have started and the abandoned bikes have been taken away recently.
