Last Friday, I defended my PhD in Astronomy and Astrophysics 🪐

Still processing… but you can call me Dr. Bibi now. 💅

I am eternally grateful to my supervisors, mentors, and everyone who supported me on this journey. 💜 #astronomy #exoplanets

Nailed it!

As per Swedish tradition, I’ve officially nailed my thesis to the wall to announce that I’ll be defending my PhD in #exoplanets atmospheres in 3 weeks and 3 days.

Dr title, I’m coming for youuuu!

If #exoplanets and memes are your thing, then this ones for you! ⬇️

The Massive Exoplanet MEME Exhibition kicks off on Monday, and on Friday they‘ll close with a couple of lovely talks! Go give them a follow to stay up-to-date 🪐

Also, this is my favourite one from a couple years back 🤓

How could I forget that I've been here before?? I had the exact same problem for another paper last year 🤣 I just added 'the entire atmosphere' as panel 18. Problem solved. ✨

This plot is from Prinoth+2023.

Thanks past me for solving this before 🤣🪐🔭

Join us for this wonderful talk by Óscar!

In place of an entrance fee, we encourage viewers to support those affected by the recent DANA in Valencia. Every amount helps 🫰🏼

Spread the word, thank you 💛

Óscar, one of our post-docs will be talking about the detection of black holes and how we are chasing shadows. The talk will be held on November 18, 17:15 CET in Lundmarksalen at Lund University, but we’re also streaming it on YouTube.

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the devastating floods which hit the region of Valencia recently - see before and after by ESA.

This is why, together with the astronomy club at Lund University, we are organising an outreach talk under the umbrella “Astronomia per València” 💙🔭

Wow I am a smarty 🤓

Just gave a two-minute flash talk about my recent paper and COMPLETELY FORGOT TO SAY MY NAME. Well, hope people looked at the slide 🥹

Here‘s the slide. Here‘s the link to the paper:

It’s my last day (in person) at the ESO offices in Vitacura today and our student coordinator just sent the cutest email to everyone. Way to make me cry.

We would like to thank everyone involved in this study, and our special thanks go to our co-author and PI of the programme, Simon Albrecht, for letting us go wild analysing the atmosphere of this planet. It was a lot of fun!

Both H and Na are clearly blueshifted with respect to the restframe. Though interestingly, the blueshifts are different!

Because H and Na are probing different altitudes of the atmosphere this hints at high-velocity day-to-nightside winds, potentially localised in jet streams.

Why is this important? Recently, observations of hotter (but less inflated) planets have not detected Fe.

Both in the literature and in our study, it is therefore unclear whether neutral Fe is present in inflated but cooler hot Jupiters. (Observation) time will tell! 🔭
August 29, 2023 at 1:50 PM
Using the cross-correlation technique, we detect H, Na and Fe. We find that we need models with higher temperatures to explain the observed signals, which could be caused by observing hotter regions at the terminator and/or a more extended atmosphere than expected by our models.

In this work, we looked at a transit of the bloated hot Jupiter WASP-172 b taken with our favourite spectrograph ESPRESSO on the VLT and studied the composition and dynamics of this wonderful target.

Let us tell you what we find!

This paper was very difficult. After I published my first paper in Nature Astronomy, I honestly felt that I would not be able to publish something equally "important".

IMPOSTER SYNDROME 🚨 I would like to thank everyone who supported me during this time. You know who you are ❤️
