In addition to my other concerns about AI (ethical issues, concerns about potential erosion of critical thinking skills and creativity) I'm now pondering the mental health implications of a reliance on technology. Do we risk our own decision making and critical thinking? (1/?)

We've tried to do our bit - find lots of coverage in our Covid collection www.bps.org.uk/collections/... - but @francesryan.bsky.social is right that Long Covid appears to be 'the public health crisis no one wants to talk about'.

It was such a pleasure talking with researchers, healthcare professionals, and people with long-covid at our event last week. The clear consensus is that people with long-covid feel they are being forgotten about - so their voices (and ours!) are as important as ever!
What is it like to navigate life with #LongCovid? This visual resource, designed by people living with long covid, shares powerful insights from those with first hand experience. This #LongCovidAwarenessDay2025 let’s amplify these voices & raise awareness.

Coming together works. Collective action works. Peaceful democratic action works! It's just that certain powerful individuals don't want us to think that it does.

Open, accessible science is so important but so is good science communication. We need to be diversifying our efforts and reaching different audiences and I think this will need new and exciting approaches!
Science is often gatekept, and so when it’s most needed, it’s met with conspiracy theories.

I’m diving deeper into this, but in the meantime, please share or tag your favourite scientists who are online—regardless of their speciality.

Just in case you were worried that 'nobody is doing anything' or 'all hope is lost' 🧵👇
🧵Who is opposing the Trump administration?

I analysed 76 actions of the administration since inauguration and then searched for *meaningful* opposition to each.

I grouped the types of opposition and considered what we can learn from both them & actions where opposition has been lacking 1/24

The part of George Orwell’s 1984 that everyone forgets is how the music and publishing industries have been replaced by a machine that spits out songs and bad novels “without any human intervention.” The goal is to keep you from ever having to think.
