Not only do most people own more clothes then they used to, the range is wider. There are so many more things available for nonstandard sizes, more fabric choices, more cuts, more colors, more styles in general. Fashion is doing amazing as an industry even as fabric suffers

Even its best use case, in fashion, it still needs a huge asterisk. Fabric quality has declined measurably in the last few decades which means clothes do not last as long or function as well. This is real. It needs a huge asterisk because availability is so much higher. People own more clothes!
