I mean this with no malice towards anyone but it's incredibly funny to me how I keep seeing people go "well he said no DLC but that doesn't rule out free characters" about Air Riders when Sakurai said "The game is complete, I wanted everything to be there from day 1"

Pokemon is basically a thing Nintendo does where once every couple of years they release a new set of character designs and I get to enjoy cute fanart based on these character designs for the next two years. Allegedly, a video game is somehow involved somewhere

It’s very fun to see Sakurai come back to the Kirby series and do Smash Bros. style fan service for it. All the playable characters in Riders are excellent choices, even beyond ones that were playable in Star Allies. Lololo and Lalala are a great deep cut to Hal’s pre-Kirby history

It's funny there was this conspiracy that Sakurai doesn't like modern Kirby, because references were minimal.
When a more mundane(so likely *true*) explanation is that...he didn't work on modern Kirby. Of course they're not gonna be referenced very often in his works(Air Riders aside.)

I feel like the Kirby franchise handles its villains much better than the Mario franchise. The Mario franchise always kills off every newly introduced villain before they are fully fleshed out as characters while Kirby gives them a redemption arc and adds them to the cast of recurring characters.
