Much of my prolonged interactions with animals is about establishing a comfort zone through repetition. This is a piece of a much longer song session with Roadie, who waits till the end of this clip to comment.

Sunday morning with Roadie, waiting for rain. I sing, bird listens. I know he doesn't understand the words, but I think he gets the good vibrations. #Roadrunner #birds #interspeciescommunication #singalong #serenade #monsoon

The Lesser-long nosed bats are in town, which means every morning the sugar-water feeders are slurped dry, so I fill them for the daytime crew of hummingbirds and Gila woodpeckers. That's 32 cups a week!

When you go shopping, the whiptail lizards know that it's always good to park in the shade.

It's not just what you give, it's how you give--Roadrunners offer each other presents with their beaks. They don't just throw the goods on the ground. Roadie prefers treats from my thumb and forefinger, my surrogate beak.

Moments after hearing from his wife that Eric, the lovely man who has always supplied me with Roadie's mealworms, is dead, my dear Roadrunner showed up at the door. Sadness and joy. The memory of Eric is a blessing.

To the man who would be #king: The Statue of #Liberty and the Regal Horned #lizard both have #crowns so sharp that when a predator tries to swallow either of these beings, the predator chokes. The lizard also has an added defense-- it can shoot foul tasting blood from its eyes. Just saying...

My silk painting, "She Wondered What Was Holding Her Back," shipped to a gallery soon after I finished. Immediately bought a private collector, who I recently found out "has left us."

I can't save every beastie, but I can try. My drawing of one of two sibling Great Horned #owlets that I rescued after they plummeted from a disintegrated nest. They thrived in the new nest-- a milk crate tied high up in a pine.

The goldfish flashed and turned, escaping back into the water 3 times before #heron gave up the gold.
The exit gate was closed, but I know tricks for squirming out of a bad situation. That's how I am-- wandering until the coyotes sing me home.

I spotted this lone Burrowing owl in a burrow I'd never seen before, no others visible in the usual places where tractors turned dry cotton fields beside a solar panel company whose goods look like battalions awaiting marching orders.
