in fact that’s what I often say. But the pushback against “I identify as” seems to be largely because opposition dismiss it as “I think something that’s not based in reality”. That misunderstanding is on them, not me. I don’t, and we shouldn’t, change language to accommodate oppressors.

the “I am…” phrasing is a stronger claim, implying objectivity (which is also still true.) Which is fine if you don’t mind inviting an ontological challenge. It should be enough that I say I’m a woman for you to treat me as one. I don’t need to prove anything. I’m not saying you can’t say “I am”,
