Realtime AI, Bio-inspired AI, robotics, biosignals, neuroscience, research ethics and signal processing. Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow. Occasional filmmaker (https://www.eigenproductions.co.uk/). Oh, and recovering anti Brexit activist.
It's not only the sloppy review process but a lot of AI papers just contain prose and vague descriptions. One might argue that acceptance is based on in-group background knowledge and I feel that's often signalled. Paper by DeepMind AI (who are not that innocent re that!):

Talking about terrible papers I just found this beauty on IEEE explore (but there are many more) attempting to draw a data flow diagram. Note that the summation node has only inputs. No outputs! And of course drawn in something like MS Paint.

So that's all what they tell us about their ML model. Totally explainable. 🥳

And there is the problem right here. My fuse-box is right behind that wall but there is the pavement... @glasgowcc.bsky.social. A cable gully would solve it but not allowed. Instead I can walk 10mins to the next charger which is often blocked by combustion engine drivers and never enforced.

While I've seen the first @ukri.org projects about "Beyond Net Zero!" bullshitting away the reality is: councils preventing home charging, blocking wide adoption of EVs and trying to cash in by forcing people to use their premium chargers. Via @privateeyenews.bsky.social.

Excellent analysis. Depressing but in particular what I see on my Facebook feed: virtually no posts by my friends. Instead my timeline is filled with posts about "Grounding mats" and "The Far Side" cartoons because I've clicked on "laugh out loud" rewarding the algorithm...

I'm old enough when people were moaning about the "Ozzy-fication" of language. Now we have the chatGPTification of language:

For anybody who's seen Louis Theroux: The Settlers that comes at no surprise but still it's mind-boggling.

Obv that's not what Remainers want to hear. Correlation is not causation. Oh, I'm sure the real reason is the massive increase in lumber prices since 2020...

Reaction by the UUK president to this: "At the conference—which took place before the latest government reshuffle—the then science and technology secretary Peter Kyle and skills minister Jacqui Smith both urged universities to specialise more." which he then turned into this:

Hey @ucuglasgow.bsky.social & @ucu.org.uk. How about adding an Ukrainian flag? After all UCU eventually voted for an Affiliation to the Ukraine Solidarity Campaign. Or do you still think it's an “armed, illiberal outpost of US imperialism”.
