Is that the same as rewriting the limit as d/dm (x^m) evaluated at m=0. Which then by derivative rules is log(x) x^0 = log(x) or are you doing something different?

Maybe I’m missing something obvious. The root of my thinking is that the end goal is fair assessment. And sometimes assessment happens on an individual basis (can person A do X), but other times it is comparative (can person A do X better than person B). Should acc be different in these cases?

Do you have thoughts on this topic with respect to programs that are highly competitive? Where top grades in the class lead directly to desired career outcomes.

If lots of students that don’t need extra time ‘cheat the sys’ to get extra time then disabled students are once again disadvantaged…

Tldr. You can either take it as:

My actions matter (annoyed)

or

My actions matter (hopeful)

Moreover, there is good reason to think that the decrease in consumption from a few people forgoing fossil fuels is the stronger effect (at least by a small or tiny fraction).

And the other poster mentioned meat. Jevon’s paradox definitely doesn’t apply to Christmas hams…

One of the issues with this argument is that it is all qualitative. Just by noting that there are forces pushing consumption in both directions you cannot conclude that consumption will not change. If one force is larger than the other, it will.

Rephrasing your argument, on a collective scale a decrease in demand caused by one or a few people forgoing ff leads to a decrease in the monetary cost of ff for the rest of society. Hence, the collective consumption by the rest of society would increase.

Jevon’s paradox is not entirely applicable here. In simple terms, Jevon’s paradox applies when individuals self-limit their consumption primarily based on the cost (monetary/social/environmental). If the cost goes down then they will be enabled to (and desire to) consume more.

At least until the food runs out.

Going through school, it took a lot of conscious effort on my part to ignore peers and adults that treated the education track as all or nothing (If you trip once then you might as well drop out of the race).

Disclaimer: I have no idea what I’m talking about and am hopefully going to learn more soon.

Hot Take: Every student should fully fail an exam at least once per course. That should be the mode.

Knowing that you can fail, get back up, and then succeed seems crucial.

How about to use as a jet-pack in an escape from a research facility while collecting coins and avoiding lasers? 🙃
