It was expected that doi.org/10.1016/j.pe... would stimulate debate, a complex matter ... My two cents, for what they are worth: doi.org/10.1016/j.pe..., but also see: doi.org/10.1016/j.pe... and doi.org/10.1016/j.pe... and there is more!

If you think Amsterdam managed to avoid being overrun by cars, you’re wrong.

They too surrendered their streets to cars for many decades.

But the people fought back, and forced leaders to see their mistake.

There's nothing magical about #Amsterdam.

They just saw their mistake, and changed it.

#Ptbo City Council focuses on two circles (property taxes and services). But less focus on the third one (density).

If we want nice things (and low taxes) then we must densify. I'd welcome densification of my area of Northcrest.
My semi-regular reminder of a really important reality about cities, density, services and taxes.

Any questions?

Just read an Essay on narcissism in science by colleague Bruno Lemaitre from the EPFL. I would have preferred to have read it before starting an academic career but it also is a good read once retired, to decode some of the dynamics of the past. Free download here: www.epflpress.org/produit/974/...

Escape from the dark skies of X to the blue skies over here ... With the help of the Sky Follower Bridge extension in Firefox I found most of the people I followed on X and many of them quickly followed me back here on Bluesky. And the skies seem indeed more blue over here :-)
