Aanrader voor iedereen die geïnteresseerd is in de geschiedenis van Afrika en geen tijd heeft voor het achtdelige "The General History of Africa". Zeinab Badawi besteedt, bewust, weinig aandacht aan de koloniale periode en neemt de lezer in een mee in de rijke geschiedenis van het continent.

Aanrader voor iedereen die geïnteresseerd is in de geschiedenis van Afrika en geen tijd heeft voor het achtdelige "The General History of Africa". Zeinab Badawi besteedt, bewust, weinig aandacht aan de koloniale periode en neemt de lezer in een mee in de rijke geschiedenis van het continent.
Dank voor de tip Hans. Toch maar weer aangeschaft. Dat gezegd hebbende, niet iedereen in huis is blij met extra papier.

Voor het eerst bezocht ik Zeitz MOCAA om "Spring Is Rebellious: The Art & Life of Albie Sachs" te zien. Wat een mooi museum en wat een mooie andere tentoonstellingen!

This week I attended and spoke at the symposium Histories of Photography from the Struggles for Independence at the French National Institute of Art History (INHA).
Apart from the great programme and the insightful presentations, it was great to see old friends and make new ones.

Last Monday I was able to visit the excellent show Paris Noir. "From the creation of the 'Présence Africaine' review to that of 'Revue Noire', Paris Noire retraces the presence and influence of Black artists in France from the 1950s to 2000" I would strongly recommend it.

Hoe prettig is het als boekhandelaren met je meedenken en je contacteren als ze fantastisch materiaal binnenkrijgen. ooit studeerde ik af op de opleiding geschiedenis aan de Vrije Universiteit met een scriptie over de rol van de vrouw in de onafhankelijkheidsstrijd van Mozambique.

Black Chronicles (Thames & Hudson 2025) onder redactie van Renée Mussai. Prachtig verzorgde uitgave boordevol mooie teksten en vanzelfsprekend zowel mooie als verontrustende portretten.

Due to the price of this book it took me some time to add it to my collection. Recently I had the opportunity to get my hands on a copy. It is by far the best monograph on Keita. What a stunning photographs, book and production.

Received a review copy of Pastoralist Homes (Steidl, Göttingen 2025) by Winfried Bullinger with the invitation to write an article/review for European Photography magazine.

Received a review copy of Pastoralist Homes (Steidl, Göttingen 2025) by Winfried Bullinger with the invitation to write an article/review for European Photography magazine.
Recently I found these two prints of which one (n⁰ 163) is an earlier photo of the Fulani girl. It's fascinating how she hardly changed her pose. The photo was most probably made in the mid 1970s by a unknown Nigerian photographer working for the Ministry of Research & Information.
