Weird, I have way too many conversations about street design where it’s clear that many people (professionals in the field) will say they understand induced demand but then recommend improvements that will only induce demand and not serve other modes

Sure, looking at ridership alone doesn’t tell you whether you are changing mode choices. It can hint at it, you’d need to survey riders to really know. But ridership can also hint at improved access for transit dependent populations, which may be as important as reducing car trips.

I managed to lead the weekly City Market-based bike ride over there because one of the participants wanted to end his ride there. Probably the hairiest bike riding we’ve done for since we started in May. We rode the sidewalk along Hydraulic near Whole Foods and then crossed US 29 in traffic

Me too, but um, opposite reasons

Public Works recently finished procurement on the Big Data platform they’ll use to assess changes to traffic speeds and volumes that happened as a result of these test speed cushions. But Brennen hasn’t gotten a chance to do that analysis yet, so he’s giving you his pro opinions in the meantime

These traffic calming tests are seeing if we can slow traffic without screwing up the back axles of our heaviest city vehicles (fire trucks, garbage trucks, buses). We’ve confirmed that this design isn’t going to cause any operations/maintenance issues. The next step is showing its slowing traffic.

Part of the issue is that PVCC is in the County, so they have to pay for the service there if they want it. This year they did! So CAT is trying to get the new stop locations identified right now and aiming to roll out the service change next Spring.

The County was working on this plan a couple of years ago. One of the missing parts of their plan was the lack of pedestrian facilities between Druid Ave and the county boundary. So the City built that sidewalk you are standing on.

CAT is literally doing planning right now to realign Route 2 so that it serves PVCC, which will double the amount of transit service. Who at the City are you arguing with?

What I love about this is that it is both correct and has a preface lets you know what to expect about a take breaking down in exasperation

Sweep the Astros: middle fingers raises to the sun, screaming and lighting something on fire, eat it
Sweep the Rockies: thank you for your sacrifice, wise spirit animal, your essence and history of improbable streaks into the post-season will sustain us

Oh, what’s that? Time to check in on the AL West division winner Seattle Mariners and their 60(+?) homer switch hitting MVP catcher with a big ol butt? Don’t mind if I do
