I ran a shop. We overwrote floppies all the time. But sharing data on 360k floppies between 1.2m and 360k drives was not guaranteed. Head width was the issue.

Never experienced those kinds of problems. I was a TDK reseller and the return rate was basically zero. Later even up to 2010 floppies read fine on Teac drives. Maybe some people had issues with 360k disks on 1.2m 5.25” floppy drives because of the lack of backward compatibility.

This kind of thing is way out of range for my friends who bought the cheapest Tesla with $11,000 in various credits. They bought around $29k brand new. They would need to switch to a polluting car instead at higher cost.
