FX-4CR Exciting V2 Firmware Update Made Simple!
This video kicks off a series on upgrading the **FX-4CR** to the V2 firmware by F5BUD! We'll be covering the **firmware update process** for both the V1.7 and V2 firmware! The FX-4CR is a tiny but powerful HF ham radio, covering 6 through 80 meters with surprisingly good sound clarity and a decent user experience, despite its tiny screen. The most recent edition of the radio added better cooling, making it even more appealing. I've been promising for MONTHS to dig deeper into the FX-4CR -- especially, the V2 firmware provided by Daniel, F5BUD. This release has many improvements over Yu, BG2FX's 1.7, or so people say, but I had yet to see it for myself! The hold-up is that the V2 firmware requires recalibration after an update -- it can't just use the calibration from the V1.7 firmware. I don't know all the reasons why, only that it seems to use different math and hence, different coefficients, to make its magic. That required additional equipment, and also the time to actually go through it! This is part one, where I go over how to update firmware on the radio in general, and then specifically the V2 version. I also do a quick "first impressions" of the V2 user interface at the end. Part two will actually get into the calibration, then part three will be a full walk-through, like I did when I first got the radio! An Amazing Autumn Day of POTA at Fort Snelling!
Welcome to another installment in my Ham Radio journey! After a long and mostly unintended hiatus, I'm back with a long video! This is my 39th Parks on the Air (POTA) activation of Fort Snelling US-2482. For this outing, I was using my Yaesu FT-710, paired with the CHA SS25 whip, the CHA Hybrid Mini transformer, and a single radial. This combination was multibanded from 6 through 30 (as you'll see from my analyzer screen), and could have been used without a tuner. I'm pretty sure my radial was actually longer than it should have been for this set up, but I still netted 80 SSB contacts in a 90 minute period, 69 of which are presented here. I know some of you originally came here for FX-4CR content, and that's still on my radar!
