A day of ghoulish fun with the Arkham Horror card game followed by orchestral horror movie soundtracks performed by candlelight…

After few weeks of blitzing short things - novellas, short games, comics - I am now diving into this monster. It’s so big I feel faintly ridiculous getting it out of my bag on the bus.

4. It’s classic “High Adventure”. You’ll cross cutlasses on the decks of sinking ships, explore ruined tombs, get sucked down whirlpools, battle more than one moustache-twirling villain, hunt enormous sea monsters, pose as undead, plan an infernal prison break, and even steal a moon from the sky.

This system of exploration is something I’ve been plotting for a long time, and I’m really happy with where we’ve got to with it! It’s essentially mixing very light board game elements into your RPG campaign, while keeping your own stories at its heart.

3. We’re doing some funky things with exploration. At the heart of the campaign is this nonlinear point crawl where you’ll use 'Clue Cards' to guide your journey across a sea map. Your story develops around these cards, at your own pace, and your actions change the makeup of the world in fun ways.

2: It uses the Aetherial Expanse as a "hub" setting. This realm hooked me from the off: an astral sea where rival colonial powers clash over an arcane power source, aetherium. It’s Master and Commander meets Spelljammer meets Arcane meets Pirates of the Caribbean. I love it.

1. It’s a love letter to one of my favourite campaigns of yesteryear, Stormbringer’s ‘Rogue Mistress’ - a madcap heavy metal romp across a bunch of unorthodox worlds, on a magic galleon armed with laser guns. Our campaign has the same drive for big ideas and inventive settings.

Excerpt from a book of English folklore I’m reading. Looks like powdered frog is the material component of a knock spell.

My first 3 #TTRPGbox sets:

1. Call of Cthulhu
2. Pendragon
3. Ghostbusters

Took us a while to get to D&D!

Feels like everything was in a box back then: sort of wish more games were now.

Joe Abercrombie's latest is brilliantly funny, and is just the tonic if you're feeling stressed. Features delightful characters smashing the hell out of things.

My daughter went as a Ghostbuster to the UK Games Expo, and it didn’t take long for her to find some other team members!

Watched The Habits last night: a play about unlikely friendships, coping with loss, and D&D. Genuinely moving with spellbinding performances. Best thing I’ve seen in ages. I really hope it get another run!

Started playing The Ascent on PS5. I have a soft spot for these types of shooters that dates all the way back to Ikari Warriors and my misspent youth as an Arcade Rat. This one has very nice booms and bangs. Big thumbs up so far!

Wow! D&D in a Castle “Hardcore Mode” complete: 36 hours of gaming over 3 days! An amazing game of D&D, with amazing players, in an amazing setting. Huge shout out to www.gamemat.eu for supplying so much of the terrain. It was EPIC.

Been thinking about ahead-of-their-time computer games which were a little baffling to play, as there was nothing much to compare them with. One of my favourite entries in this list was Corporation (1990), a forerunner to System Shock, Deus Ex, and other narrative action games.

Great to see Stacey’s poster map of Neverwinter in the latest D&D Adventurer magazine. It’s a big boy and those icy colours came out really well in print!

Just finished this lovely mythos number by @jonathanlhoward.bsky.social. Had me cackling on the bus like a madman. Bravo!

More prep for Keep on the Far Realm. Delved into my library to fetch these forbidden and damnable tomes.

Wow! 12 years ago this month. Still one of my favourite adventures.
