Mark - The Retro Artist
@beechhouse-media.bsky.social
Retro Artist and tech preservationist, painting the 80s since the 80s. Mad skills in dog walking and coffee consumption. Collects old computers while attempting to explain I’m not a next level hoarder.
roundrects and squircles seem to be making a comeback in Apple’s new iOS design. Almost retro, we saw these rounded app icons in 2007 ish..

Pretty sure we first saw liquid glass type displays in a 70s Star Trek episode. Next we’ll get bigger phones with replaceable batteries…

So, iOS 26. In 4 years time we will have forgotten the reason for the version jump and will just feel really old.

Upside: Finally, millennials will feel old too.

In an enormous display of generosity a sponsor has offered to match every £ spent on our museum fundraiser up to a limit of £25,000. We're all floored by this kind gesture, and what it means is that your purchasing power (existing and new purchases) is now doubled.

4 of my latest retro creations!

Not bad considering this series is going to consist of 1989 artworks. Definitely a journey. Might have to start painting 80s Tupperware tubs if I run out of 80s pop culture inspiration!

One of my latest retro artworks- all hand drawn and painted using Procreate on M2 iPad Pro, Apple Pencil, and more hours than you’d think!

Joysticks didn’t always just plug into a computer, sometimes you needed a “thing” which would wobble, and then you needed Blue Tak. For me, it was Kempston all the way. Those DB9 plugs, way more robust than these fancy USBs.

Hand drawn, iPad Pro, Procreate.

One of my latest retro artworks. Hand painted using Procreate on an M2 iPad Pro, quite a bit of coffee was also involved.

It’s the hoard you love to find in the attic, unless you’re a millennial, in which case it’s an archeological discovery from the 1980s.

Magnetic Memories. Another piece created by hand in my quest to make this a collection of 1,989 works. What will I do when I get there? Probably have a nap.

The Joy of Sticks. Getting closer to finishing my series of 1,989 artworks depicting retro and vintage tech, childhood memories… when I say closer, I mean like I still need to paint another 1700 ish works… all hand painted, none of that Ai rubbish!

If 1980s home computers were ice creams…

Hand drawn, iPad Pro, Procreate. Reasonably confident that Atari ST owners will go into meltdown mode.

There’s nothing like opening that retro junk drawer. My latest hand drawn creation. M2 iPad Pro, Procreate, lots of coffee.

Had no idea that VAT is charged on school uniforms if you’re 14 and over. Just when those slacks and tank tops are becoming more expensive too. RAAC

There was nothing quite like flicking through the electronics section of an 80s home shopping catalogue. Hand drawn, iPad Pro M2, Procreate.

Another retro work, another forgotten console. Hand drawn, iPad Pro M2, Procreate.
