Apparently most people have settled here away from the Bird Site so here I am. Expect mostly horses, cats, food, and sight-seeing. Not talking politics for a while if I can help it.
Snap! Excellent exhibition, and some great books in the gift shop.

Who doesn't love Hamish? Fantastic ride by Tom Marquand to win the G3 St Simon Stakes.

Coffee and the wee tiniest bitesize delicacies from Dulcis, followed by book shopping, one for him, one for me. Guess which book is mine 😜

My long-suffering husband ♥️ took me to the Fitzwilliam Museum to the Made in Ancient Egypt exhibition. And then endured me explaining things to him. He is a good man.

I knew he was The One when he survived two hours in the British Museum with me a month into dating 😅

Her one friend.

Horse paddock dynamics are fascinating.

Our beautiful Shaman-cat passed on Saturday, while we were out of the country. MiL was with him, but I'm devastated we weren't here. We had changed our flights in the hopes we'd get to say goodbye, but it wasn't to be.

I miss him and am a bit broken. He was 18 and had a loved life, but it hurts.

Babyyyyyyy 🧡

Cape Liberty had a handsome 54.5kg baby boy this morning. Her first chestnut! (She's had four nearly identical dark bay colts so far)

As he is a perfect little chocolate orange he's been named Terry's.

I did it!! First riding lesson this week. Lots to do and lots to learn and lots of leg exercises to do 😅 But I didn't fall off and even managed a brief trot.

Books I've read so far in 2025.

Around the World in 80 Cigars, Nick Hammond.

Husband's book, but it's as much anecdotes and travel stories as it is cigars. A lovely and very English view of parts of the world. Plus money from sales supports a school in Nicaragua, which can only be good.

Books I've read/am reading so far in 2025.

A Thousand Miles up the Nile, Amelia B Edwards.
Written by the queer female founder of modern British Egyptology, how could I not love this book. Very much of its time but with a wonderfully thoughtful introduction. A must for any history nerd.

This boy arrived at his new home yesterday, ready to start training at Marco Botti's yard in Newmarket. He is already being spoiled and has the ladies of the yard wrapped around his finger. Kisses from the racing secretary and extra hay from one of the yard staff.

He's going to be spoiled 😅

Thank you! The anniversary isn't for a few months yet, as we got him as an older kitten. He has had extra treats and is now under a blanket on my lap like a giant baby.

It is this pudding's birthday today. He turns a whopping seven years old (which means it's our seven year anniversary this year, as we bought him as a wedding gift to ourselves).

He is still a neurotic little crazy person, and I love him. Happy birthday, Tikal.

Books I've read/am reading so far in 2025.

Tales of Norse Mythology, H.A. Guerber.
Husband got me this as a Christmas gift cos a) it's a pretty book and b) I'm a history and mythology nerd. It reads a bit too much like a collection of essays to be an easy read, but it was definitely fascinating.

Books I've read/am reading so far in 2025:

The Last Devil to Die, Richard Osman.
Ok, basic, but my MIL is to blame. In revenge I got her into James Anderson.
What can I say, it's the latest in the series, it's good, but maybe a little formulaic at this point. That said, this one was sad.

I have booked my first riding lesson!!

Yes, at the grand age of 40, after owning and breeding horses for five years, I am learning to ride a horse.

My ultimate dream is to win the lottery, buy Caramac back from his trainer in Ireland, and keep him as my own and go out for a hack every morning.

Books I've read/am reading so far in 2025:

Displeasure Island, Alice Bell
As mentioned, I devoured the first book, and immediately ordered the sequel from my local bookshop. It was just as good, just as dry and witty, just as Millennial. But with more ghosts 😅

Our beautiful Raven's Lady has produced two outstanding horses already. She has a 2yo Lope de Vega to run. We don't own her anymore and haven't for a long time, but she's family. I'm so excited for her kids and their future.

This is the beauty of horse racing and racehorse breeding.
March 10, 2025 at 5:55 PM
Her half brother, Raven's Lady's next foal, is a colt by Uncle Mo, and named Tito Mo Cen. He didn't run as a 2yo and I worried we wouldn't see him.

His first race, as a 3yo, he won by 7 lengths. His second race, yesterday, was the listed Prix Maurice Caillault. He won that too.

Ramatuelle retired and was bought by Coolmoore for $5.1million. She now lives in luxury in Ireland, and will be covered by top stallion Wootton Basset this year.

But it doesn't end there...
March 10, 2025 at 5:47 PM
In her 3yo season Ramatuelle placed 3rd in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, where I screamed my head off, & 3rd in G1 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot. She eventually won her well-deserved G1 in France in the Prix de la Foret.

She would have won the Breeders Cup Mile if she hadn't been withdrawn.
March 10, 2025 at 5:44 PM
Yeguada Centurion bred her to American Triple Crown winner, Justify. The foal was a small chestnut filly, who looked nice but injured herself at the yearling sale in France, sold for €100k.

That filly was Ramatuelle. She won her maiden by 4 lengths, and won a G3 and G2 before her third birthday.
March 10, 2025 at 5:38 PM
We sold her in the December of her 4th year. She sold for £350k. She went off to America, where she had a slow start but went on to win at Gulfstream Park before she was retired. She was sold at Keeneland to Yeguada Centurion $300k.

It was sad to see her go, but things just got better...
March 10, 2025 at 4:58 PM
Her 4yo season was her best. Wins and placings, but then the G3 Summer Stakes at York, which she won by a nose. She was a Group winner!

Next was Germany, 6 days before our wedding, for the G2 Golden Whip. Once again she won it by a nose. As a wedding gift Marco gave us the trophy 😅
