Rude not to… perfect combination of reading matter and TGV this evening. Looking forward to whether
@garethdennis.bsky.social rates SNCF as highly as I do

I’ve been on one near Maury in the Pyrenees Orientales. Amazing and great way between villages for tourism and people living locally.

Ok I’ve just been called out for not alt texting. To be clear I thought I had so I’d appreciate feedback. Can anyone else detect the text I entered? This is what I did to the previous image so I’m just checking that I’ve done it correctly.

For comment - This is how Paris is developing its street orthography to distinguish between crossing points (tactile paving and white) and cycle parking bays - kerb edged to distinguish from pavement- which have been carved out of carriage way (repurposed from car parking). What else should they do?

My friend in #Paris has just texted me her latest street update ❤️❤️❤️
@tricyclemayor.bsky.social I’d say this is another bit of enabling active travel infra

We’ve done about 400 miles in the UK. Carbon footprint of UK electricity is about 3 x that in France so about 23g/km I reckon. So a round 15kg CO2e for our family Christmas visit on that side of the channel.

1000km of France and we’re at the tunnel. The ginger dog is still not impressed.

First stop 400km into our annual electric migration. CO2 consumption about 7.8g CO2/km (French electricity 56g/kWh). Ginger dog is ‘not impressed’ but that means everything is normal.

So many stats coming in… Strava (5000km by bike) and now SNCF reckoning on 10000km of French railways - nothing yet from @trainline.bsky.social or @deutschebahn.bsky.social so no total yet but even so think I’ve done ok.

Snow in the mountains. This train never ceases to amaze me. The last stretch from Toulouse to Latour-de-Carol is best described as ‘steady’. But look at the height gains! I did a full day of Paris meetings on Tuesday, dinner and onto the train at 2130. To wake up in a completely different world 🗻🗻🗻

Back on the night train - it’s about a mile long!

Today’s adventures in rural transport include cycling up a mountain, an electric car and the night train to Paris.
