Thank everything that's holy that the accident happens the day before the Golden Disk Awards, and not live on camera, or millions of viewers would see Chan's foot plant on a rung of the ladder that shears off under his weight and momentum. The awful screech of twisting metal covers Chan's startled yell as he flails for balance. His other foot slides right across the jagged end of the broken rung, sharp enough to slice right through his costume boot and leave a hot streak of pain.

wip wtuesday now that i'm making progress on whumptober! someone brought up luck powers and as a dice goblin i'm leaning into it

Reality comes back slowly, freed from the grasp of the wild animal reaction to pain he can't escape. This is just the simulator. The simulator isn't real. It hurts just the same, but when he finishes the scenario, he won't have the bright red welts or the deep bruising or- "Who sent you? What were you here for?" Chan shakes his head, grits his teeth. He doesn't bother verbalizing his responses anymore, not when his throat is raw from screaming. Maybe that'll be real. How long is this scenario? Manger-hyung refused to say. Surely rescue is coming soon, or maybe an opportunity to escape, if the man asking him questions and shocking him when he refuses to answer leaves for just a minute... The pain returns. Chan would throw up if his jaw wasn't locked shut. As it is, there's not much in his stomach. The simulator scenario has already been days long, and his captors barely give him enough water to keep him alive. "Who sent you? What were you here for?" The shocks start to blur together. At one point, delirious and desperate, Chan tries to fight back, manipulates an one-in-a-billion chance into place, creating an arc across a frayed wire. The generator he's hooked up to fries itself and Chan drops out of the cuffs when they automatically release. He can't stand, though, can barely crawl, and he doesn't get far. It's another day of simulator time before he's freed. Manager-hyung gives him a nod, at least. "Good work protecting the team." He didn't give up anything important. Just himself. Good.
