(5) For example when every single person except one who has SERVED as the President of the United States has been a white man, it’s hard for us to see anyone else as “presidential”. We continue to see Barack Obama is the “exception”. Note: there is no rule to which he is the exception to.

(4) Our Department of Education is currently undermining our ability to make schools work. Not just make schools work for underrepresented people, but make schools work for every student. Research has shown time and again when an institution does not create a sense of belonging it limits growth.

(3) We currently can not accomplish this because the pipeline of future educators is not diverse enough, and there is not enough support for future teachers to survive the collegiate system nor enough support to keep high quality teachers in the classroom.

(2) Anyone who has take a pre-service teaching curriculum can explain this using rudimentary foundational principles of a psychology. In short Maslow before Bloom. A student must feel like the classroom is a place where they belong before they can do higher order thinking.
