I’d been thinking about an AU loosely based on the movie Plus One for a while so we’ll see if this goes anywhere #WIPWednesday
“You disgust me.” Ed throws the pillow back down on the bed, then flops onto his back. “Why didn’t we share a room?” He asks the ceiling, closing his eyes when the bed dips next to him and he feels Stede settle in beside him. “Next wedding,” Stede promises instead of pointing out that Ed was supposed to share a room with Felix. “Still not talking about it?” “Tomorrow,” Ed whispers, willing the tears gathering behind his eyes not to fall. “You want to tell me the real toast?” “It’s really good, not to brag, and I don’t want to push you over the edge.” There’s a note of teasing in Stede’s voice that rids Ed of the lump in his throat and puts a smile on his face. “Mary said there’s no way I make her cry but I don’t know, this might do it.” “Doug’s going to cry all night,” Ed says fondly, and his smile widens when Stede slips his hand into Ed’s. “I’m happy for them, I really am. I just wish I wasn’t so fucking sad for me.” “I know.” Stede squeezes his fingers and they lay there for a while. Ed loves Stede, like sometimes it hits him hard just how much and he almost can’t catch his breath. This is one of those moments, where it wallops him over the head that no one in the whole world could make him feel better the way that Stede does just by being next to him.

A WIP for something that’s very personal and may be coming after slapshot (working on editing the next chapter now 🤭)
The shadows near the back fence were so deep that Stede smelled the smoke before he saw Ed. His steps faltered, and he considered going back inside, but Ed had been friendly earlier and had been the only person Stede had met for weeks who didn’t put him slightly on edge. “Heeeeeey,” Ed called as Stede drew nearer, and he faintly saw the red-tipped glow of Ed’s cigarette in the dusky light. “I can put this out.” “No no.” Stede waved a hand and leaned his back against the fence next to Ed as casually as possible. “You were here first.” “So you’re the newest missionary?” Ed asked, his voice tight, and then he blew out the smoke he’d been holding in. Stede nodded, then added a soft, “yes.” “Guess they haven’t warned you off of me yet?” Ed asked with a dry chuckle. “Most of you guys steer clear.” Stede made a face and looked at the square glow of the kitchen window across the yard. “As Latter Day Saints, we’re meant to fellowship. To be kind and welcoming to our fellow man and all that.” “Well, you’re barking up the wrong tree if you’re trying to convert me,” Ed teased, nudging Stede lightly with his shoulder when he said nothing.
