Kind of underscores that George W Bush's PEPFAR, an example of supposed "compassionate conservatism" that may have been sincere for him on this topic, represented just a blip among Republicans overall.
Today is World AIDS Day. The White House ignored the AIDS crisis when it began because a Republican (Reagan) was president. The United States is no longer observing World AIDS Day because another Republican (Trump) is president. #Bigots

Even before the internet, people have a tendency to judge their fellows in an all-or-nothing way. Saints or demons.

But just because MTG and Boebert are terrible people on most issues, that doesn't mean we can't have common cause on occasion. If they can help release the Epstein files - use it!
I’m increasingly annoyed with people’s cynicism about Marjorie Taylor Greene’s pivoting as she has. Lauren Boehbert, too. Who cares if they’re genuine or not? Every MAGA cultist who stands up to Trump about anything has value, no matter their motives or veracity.

A fascinating thread.
Those claiming Dems should retreat on racial justice aren't hard-headed realists, they're pushing against the electoral tide rather than leaning into it. The story of Gen Z isn't about racist backlash or red-pilled young men. It's the most racially progressive generation in American history. 🧵

Bernie Sanders is 84 and serving his 4th Senate term. Mandatory retirement and term limits would have deprived the US of his voice a decade or more ago. It's not the age or number of terms that are the problem.
A bigger problem is lack of choice driven by voter apathy and corporate money.
Schumer has been there for 45 years.

Grassley for 51 years

They ain’t serving out of the kindness of their hearts. They do it, because that’s all the know.

There needs to be both term limits and maximum age limits on each and every government position.

This is the challenge of democracy in a society full of unequal relationships. People in power and using it to keep wages low, access to care down, and rents rising are always outnumbered - but they can count on many people tuning out the political process that could otherwise keep them in balance.
STARVING THE POOR IS NOT AN OPTION!

Let's go fellow Americans...Let's make this ELECTION one to remember!

In case any of you were still laboring under the idea that capitalism gave corporations incentive to improve services. It doesn't. It gives incentives to increase profitability and that has led to reduced staff, reduced salaries, and increased deaths among Medicare patients. (1/2)
Private equity takeover of hospitals led to rise in Medicare emergency patient deaths, says study
Study found seven more deaths per 10,000 patients in private equity hospitals’ versus non-private equity hospitals

I've generally hated musicals - but I really enjoy The Producers and Hamilton. My theater kid daughter diagnosed me as really just having a problem with "Classic" musicals like the ones my mother watched and that Modern musicals are more my jam.
I've tried to find my way into musical theater for years, but it just never happened ... until this morning and I sincerely do not understand why. I'm just glad it happened.

I am soliciting classic musical recommendations for a newly-decanted, curious but overwhelmed, musical theater kid in his 50s

This is the weirdest thing. 1) The US, which has bases around the world to project our military and economic power, will be hosting a foreign military's base. And 2) It's the Qatari air force and it's going to be in Idaho.

Qatar wants to project military power? From IDAHO?!?
Nothing says “America First” like letting another country put an Air Force base in Idaho

Hey, you multiply two negative numbers and the product is positive. I'm sure that's what the studio execs are thinking here.
Okay, so admittedly the first Tron was a critical and box office flop, and the second Tron was also a critical and box office flop, but I have some high expectations for this new Tron starring a man who exclusively makes critical and box office flops!

Because I'm ready to spill tea on the Real-Housewives-level shenanigans that go down in the 72-story ANTIFA corporate headquarters. Especially by the lab assistants on the Molotov Cocktail floor.

Oh, yeah. A lot of people don’t realize that the blitzkrieg ran on amphetamines. It’s how they could be so effective for such long periods. But those drugs also erode empathy, so they fueled the Holocaust by Bullets as well.
Also, you know who else fed their military amphetamines? Nazis.
